Atari 800xl ac adapter with Commodore 64?

if i use my atari 800xl ac adapter with my new c64 will it fry it? the plug looks the same, but im not sure if it's wired the same.

Yes.

As to the power adapter, haven't a clue. My guess is no, but I could be be mistaken. A *lot* of early machines used DIN connectors like that with random pinouts.
