Highjacked browser

I went on vacation for 2 weeks, while at the beach house I used the Wi-fi network the owner had set up, with his premission. Had no problems with it. The last day which was Sunday we had problems connecting and figured the thunderstorm the night before at somehow messed the network up. We get home and thats when the problem started.

I do not have high speed at my house, I have a dial-up account just to have it. I do my research from work or a wi-fi hotspot such as Panera, and some local coffee houses. When I connect now at these free hotspots I get this window in Firefox that wants me to download Comcast high-speed something or another and it will not let connect from that wondow. I can turn Firefox and Airport off and then back on and connect just fine, however it is a bit annoying that comcast somehow has taken over my Firefox browser.

Any suggestions?

mac or pc?

is this a Mac OS or Windoze Machine? One thing you might want to check is the DNS Server. It *might* be talking to a DNS server to pick up the internet, and the DNS may be re-routing the page to a built-in page. The other is that you might have picked up a virus/adware/spyware. For tools to get rid of it, see my page (these are the tools I use in my business with client's machines):

Sorry I forgot the machine its a PowerBook G4, until it stops working or cant do what I need it to do I'm not upgrading. Not that I don't want to just can't justify the expense until I need to.

Is there anything unusual in your Prefs -> Accounts -> Login Items? Also, did your home page get changed? Did you install anything to make the PB work on the connection you had been using?

Check your network settings,

Check your network settings, System Preferences -> Network -> AirPort -> TCP/IP. It should most likely be set to DHCP with all the boxes empty.

Hah, good point. If it is still retaining the DNS settings of the old connection and it's trying to do a DNS redirect because your IP doesn't match up to what it expects...
