Powerbook 1400

Hey my pb 1400 has a hard drive issue where the drive spins up and then spins down again and repeats it over and over, no system will load or anything. I've tried with 2 different cables and drives so i can rule out that the drives and cables aren't defective. anyone have any other suggestions?

If the drive won't spin up and stay spinning the PB is most likely not getting enough power to the drive. You might try a low power drive if you have one. Check the startup power draw of the drives you have tried and compare to anything else you might have.

its really werid, i used the hard drive for a long time before it started with this problem. and i haven't a low power drive to use, i don't think. i have a 5V 1.0a which has the spinup problem too when in the powerbook and works fine in its own laptop

It could be your DC board get

It could be your DC board getting old and has been slowly losing output power, or even your backlight inverter going bad and sucking down more juice.

You could try unplugging powe

You could try unplugging power to the inverter and seeing (well...listening) if you can boot.

How's your battery? You don't say if you've tried booting from battery vs. AC. Could even be the AC adapter if that's all you've got to start it from.
