Silent CC

I've got two Color Classics that I got a couple years ago.

Both work fine, except that neither one has sound.

Thing is, one had sound when I tested it before bringing it home, but it punked out on me when I started it at home.

It's not a control panel thing, the speakers are connected in both. Volume's maxxed out, but still I get nada.

Does this sound familiar? Anyone have any thoughts on what the cause - and therefore the solution - might be?

I've got a pdf of the basic CC repair manual - gives me nothing.

Thanks

Check the caps on the board.

Check the caps on the board. They might be leaking, or otherwise damaged.

trash the prefs?

Hey,

Trash the Sound prefs and the Finder prefs. Might do it.

I had a look at the board, forgot to mention it. Pulled the logic board out, left the analog in place adn just hit it with a very bright flashlight. No overt signs of component damage.

I trashed the Finder prefs - it has no Sound prefs that I can find. No change. Also tried starting up with extensions disabled, and zapping the PRAM - same results for each.

Oh, I forgot to mention - it has no startup chime either, so I don't think it's a software issue. I guess that tidbit would have helped.

BTW, the PRAM battery's dead. Any chance that would be a factor? I'd love it if it were an easy fix like that.

I have had this happen on two

I have had this happen on two CCs, and both times is was due to poor connections.
If you're willing to disassemble, clean the contacts on the motherboard and analog board edge connectors.
You might get away with just unplugging components and plugging back in.

Tried external speakers. That wasn't it, either.

I could live with that. You m

I could live with that. You mean the main contacts on the boards where they plug in, or something else?

Also, on the two you had bad sound with, I don't suppose there's a chance that it was the same connections, was it?

Just wondering if there's a weak point that I could home in on.

Yep, right at the front of both boards where they plug into the cable loom.
