Hello Everyone,
I recently purchased a brand new, in the original box, never opened or used 5300cs.
I have been doing research on it and have found that it came with an optional 26k modem.
I am not sure yet if mine has one, but the question is:
Is there a way to upgrade to an internal 56k modem? And if there is, does anyone have a suggestion on where I might be able to buy one?
I am anticipating upgrading the RAM to the full 64Meg allowed and a few other upgrades as money and time allow. This is my first Apple Laptop, so I'm a little exited. lol
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Hello Again,
I have found several websites with the items that I am looking for, but I went up to check the specs on the 5300 cs and found that it does not have a USB port (I guess it was made just a bit before USB was normal). I was lucky though, I found a couple of sites that have Serial to USB adapters.
As soon as I finish up my Power PC Beige G3 Tower project, I'm going to max out this 5300.
Steven
For that zippy modem feel, you can however easily find 56K PCcard modems.
And before you ask, NO, you cannot use a USB PCcard. Won't fit, wouldn't work if it did.

Thanks Dan.
Head Gap has the 56k Type II card modems for about $40.00. I found that out today. No USB huh? Well... back to the drawing board. I don't even have the computer in my hot little hands yet and I'm already having problems. lol
I am beginning to think that maybe I should have stuck with rebuilding / refurbishing Apple II's. Life would be much simpler, but it wouldn't be as fun.
Best Regards,
Steven
