Hello People,
I was wondering if there is a list of compatible monitors that would work with the IIgs, as there is a list of compatible disk drives I have come across in the past.
The monitor I have a chance to obtain is an Apple Performa plus display M9102 and I believe it has a DA-15 connector on it, as does my IIgs.
The other question I have is that when using a CRT monitor, does it matter if the IIgs unit is PAL or NTSC? I have an American IIgs but the monitor will be European.
Thanks in advance
Alex
Yes. 1) Any composite monitor ever produced. 2) The Apple RGB display.
That's where the similarity ends. The monitor isn't compatible. It's not on the list.
I think it probably does. Often there is the problem of PAL only showing black and white.
If you use a composite monitor, then yes, it matters. The monitor will have to be capable of interpreting an NTSC color signal in order to show color. Otherwise it will either just show a nasty dot pattern. (Or nothing at all if the monitor is locked into PAL scan rates and won't sync to NTSC at all.) Multi-standard monitors seem to be more common in Europe than they are in America so hopefully you won't have too many issues finding an NTSC-capable one.
Note that even under the best of circumstances the composite output will give you a pretty bad display. So... if you feel "do it yourself"-ish this might be a better solution:
How to build a cable to connect a IIgs to a SCART-equipped TV.
They don't do SCART in the US (too bad), but again I have the vague impression it's reasonably common in Europe. An RGB SCART connection should give you a pretty good picture.
