Need help on sharing internet from my laptop to my desktop.

Okay, my ignorance of networks is cramping my style yet again...

Where I stay, I have access to a WiFi network and am using this to get on the internet. I have just brought Connie (my PM8600/500) up and set it all up. Now I need to get internet up and running. My temporary solution is to run an ethernet wire from my laptop to Connie and enable internet sharing over the laptops ethernet port (from the laptops airport).

So, I set the laptop up this way and plugged in a Cat5 and then did not get my expected result as you are now expecting by this post.

Could some one please learn me good on how to make it work?

TIA

***UPDATE***
I changed the addresses used by the ethernet to be static and can connect to Connie from my laptop and see the hard drives. I cannot see the laptop from Connie and I cannot see the internet. What is the solution to this? It should be a two-way connection, right? the laptop is invisible to Connie.

What OSs are you running? IIRC, 8.6 and earlier can't connect to 10.5 and later due to missing appletalk file sharing (it only supports it over TCP/IP). If you've got a late enough version of the appleshare extension you might be able to manually type in the IP to connect, though.

The laptop is running X.4.11 and the desktop is running 9.1.
