APPLE 50 – 50 years of Apple as an ASCII-art slideshow for the Apple-1 (inspired by David Schmenk's Apple30)

Hi all,

To mark 50 years of Apple, I made APPLE 50: a slideshow of 19 ASCII-art screens for the Apple-1, in 6502 assembly. It is directly inspired by David Schmenk's Apple30 (see node/24600), which showed that the Apple-1's40x24 terminal can carry recognizable pictures.

Full disclosure: this project was vibe coded with Claude. I steered it (subjects, tuning, testing, review of every screen), and Claude wrote the assembly, the build tools and the image conversion pipeline.

WHAT IT SHOWS

Apple-1, Apple II, Lisa, Macintosh 128K, iMac G3, iPod, iPhone, MacBook Air,iPad, Apple Watch, Steve Jobs, Woz, the 1983 pirate flag, Jony Ive, Tim Cook,John Ternus, plus title and closing screens. Each screen has a centredcaption on the last line.

HOW TO RUN IT

- Needs the Woz Monitor ROM (it calls ECHO at $FFEF) and the full 8K of RAM.

- Paste apple50.hex into the monitor, then type:  300R

- Screens advance on their own. Any key skips, ESC returns to the monitor. It loops after the last screen.

- Code and the first screens live at $0300-$0FC0, the rest in the second  4K bank at $E000-$EFFC (the usual W jumper position). If your W jumper  puts bank B at $1000, there is a $1000 build too.

Feedback welcome, especially from anyone running it on real hardware or witha different bank/jumper setup. Ideas for more screens are welcome too.

Thanks to David Schmenk for the inspiration.

Jonathan.
