Strange pattern on Macintosh SE/30 !

Hi,

I have a problem with my SE/30.
When I power on the SE/30 nothing happens, no sound, only a strange pattern on screen, as you can see on the picture.
I could hear the noise from HD for few seconds but without LED flashing.
I replaced the battery because the old one was at 0,8Volt, but nothing changes.
Have someone an idea what could be wrong?

Memory is likely making poor contact in the socket.
Make sure the memory is seated firmly.
It's not uncommon for oxidation to occur, also the sockets aren't
very robust so take care when removing / reinstalling the memory.
Also, you could have a defective memory SIMM
Good luck!

Many thanks macnoyd for answering,

I done this check about the SIMMS, but no oxidation or dust and they are seated firmly.
There are 8 SIMMS in 2 banks, Bank A 4x 4Mb and Bank B 4x1Mb.
For testing I filled up only Bank A with 4x4Mb and as second test, Bank A with 4x1Mb but without success.
The SE/30 was working well 5 years ago before I set aside the Mac in a dry room.

I have no Idea what happens. Could it be that the capacitors or the video card are bad?
Strange is that I could hear the HD working for few seconds but without LED flashing.

Thanks for all suggestion.
(Sorry for my English, because I’s not my strong point)

Hi,

It sounds like the surface mount capacitors have gone bad.

You may be able to bring the machine back to life temporarily by cleaning the logic board thoroughly to remove any leaked electrolyte. This is by no means a permanent fix, however.

You should replace those capacitors (or have someone do it for you) as soon as possible to prevent damage to the circuit traces and other nearby components.

Unfortunately, given the advanced symptoms, it's possible that there's already some damage. However, it's likely not beyond repair.
