It's on like Donkey Kong

I thought some of you might be interested in a thread over on the Atariage forums.
http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/205521-apple-its-on-like-donkey-kong/

Ever wish some of the Apple arcade games made use of the Mockingboard?
Ever wish Donkey Kong had the intro screen from the original game?
etc...

Well, there is some hacking going on.

Yeah, the JamesD over there is me.
If anyone wants the source to the Mockingboard music player I'll eventually make that available for download.

Nice Work!!!

I never bought a Mocking-Board back in the Day... But I see there are a couple options our there Today..

Reactive Micros' Mockingboard v1a

and this Korean made Clone at http://cafe.naver.com/appleii. ( Located at this Article, Korean Apple II Mockingboard Clone)

This picture at the cafe.naver.com Apple ii site brought back some memories of my kids at that age, playing the same game, Load Runner on an Apple ][e. 10 years later, and the youngest two still play Retro Video Games, on Nintendo's SNES, the N64, the Game Cube, and the Wii.

I need to get me a MockingBoard Clone and try out your Donkey Kong, Re-Mastered...

To give credit where credit is due, I'm not the only person working on it.
Check the original thread.

We don't have a release with the music support... yet. It shouldn't be too long.

I just released an initial version of the music player source over there.
Only 3 background songs so far... the rest are going to be a lot tougher.
I might try implementing the opening screen before adding more music.
Music isn't exactly my first language and AY settings compounds that. Smile

It should be usable from BASIC if anyone wants to give it a shot I could lend a hand.

I did read, and noted that The Usotsuki is the Lead on this Project, you are providing the Enhanced Sound with the Mocking-Board, rather than the original Apple II speaker sound.

I am very much looking forward to it.. Luckily, Apple //e Emulator supports the Mocking-Board...

Thank You for your time spent on this project....

Re: It's on like Donkey Kong

You might want to try the update I just posted. It has some bug fixes.

If anyone has a real Mockingboard, I'd like to have you test out the code.
There seems to be a delay in the start of the music and I'm not sure if it's a VIA setting or if the emulator isn't emulating the timer interrupt perfectly.
The timer should trigger and start playing in the equivalent of one vertical blank but it seems to be taking longer.

I am looking forward to seeing the whole project working... I need to find me a MockingBoard too...

Re: It's on like Donkey Kong

Just an FYI, I turned over my player and music to the other guy working on this and he has done absolutely nothing with it.
I had even started working on the intro screen but unless he gets motivated I don't see it being finished anytime soon.
Sorry.
