Item came in damaged shape.

Please to everyone who sells, Always pack tightly with the fedex's rule of 3-4 inchs of big bubble wrapped for heavy things. Always tightly packed no movement in the box.

Sellers understand that its your responsibility to get the advertised item to the buyer home in an advertised shape. You Can't blame the buyer or the shipping service
for packages that were not packed appropriately. Being lazy or quickly packing something and adding insurance for the buyer to deal with is not professional.
Also giving a guilt trip, how much shipping cost you "wasted" on the buyer, how long you been selling with out issue, expressing your angry, are not things that should be practiced.

This is just a educational note. I didn't want to say anything but, more of a note Smile

Your comment is untrue and unwarranted. The printer was packed correctly and YES, it is not my fault if it was damaged in transit. The buyer REFUSED to have a damage claim filed with USPS. Instead he blamed me. Grow up!

mrathlon1700, your note is a good reminder, I'm dealing with this with a buyer right now on something similar and seeing this from your perspective made me change my response to them. The tendency is to blame someone else, but the buyer doesn't care who's fault it is, just wants the item, blaming doesn't help.

Everywhere I know to sell online (Amazon, ebay, etc) it's ALWAYS the sellers responsibility to make sure the item arrives as expected, it doesn't matter if the shipping truck caught fire (has happened to me!) it's the sellers responsibility to make it right, however they decide to do that (insurance, paying out of pocket, etc). So right or wrong, that's what everyone expects when purchasing online. I'm biased, but I don't think it's necessarily the sellers fault if it arrives damaged, I've seen boxes thrown and even watched them roll a large box up my driveway once.

You can help the seller a lot if you let them file a damage claim, if it was packaged properly, they should get their money back, and if not, they at least get parts. The seller has to set it up this way, but it sounds like you still want to keep it, just disappointed it's damaged, if you work it out with the seller, you can have it inspected on site but keep the item, they get some/all of the money back, which they can pass some onto you to help cover the damage. If I buy something at a store that is broken, they expect me to bring the item back they don't just give a refund. Sometimes with small items sellers just give a refund since it's cheaper than return shipping, but I don't think you can expect an online seller to do anything if you don't let them file a claim, even if it was obviously packaged poorly.

As someone who has sold and shipped several hundred printers of similar size over the years, I wanted to add a note about shipping printers.
Laser printers are large and quite fragile compared to say a computer. Even packed with UPS guidelines I still have some that are damaged. UPS requires only 2 inches and depending on the weight, they often require a double wall box, was not aware FedEx recommends 3-4. There's always a balance, you can certainly pack something so it can fall out of a moving truck without damage, but you have to plan for the most likely without adding a lot of unnecessary cost to the shipping, adding another inch can cost up to $20 in shipping and packing cost. My experience is larger printers need closer to 4 inches to be shipped safely (This is how HP Ships most of their larger printers). Most of the damage is on the corner, so the double wall box and somehow strengthening the corners with something other than bubble wrap/peanuts (I use styrofoam) helps a lot.

Hi Smiggly

Thanks for your insight on this :). I totally agree with you that it's not always the fault of the seller if the item come damaged. I have received many damaged thing in the past, which were heavy and fragile at the same time. They were either vintage expensive speakers or huge tube HIFI amps with heavy transformers that could bent tweak and destroy an amp getting bent easily. " Not pretty with Point to Point Wiring lol" Most times people either private or online auction sellers were very helpful and reassuring of the situation to make it right and they were packed for as well as they could be for the trip.

Unfortunately in this case I had paid 80 for shipping and $30 for the printer. On top of it I had to ship the printer back to the seller which cost me $80 again. So even though I'm getting refunded Im out $80 in the end. Unfortunately with no word on a claim either, I don't think I will ever get back from the seller. Seller made more money on the claim.

I agree with you totally about extra cost in layers of bubble wrap, but the cost I paid for shipping alone, little effort should of been taken.
The box it came in had 5-7 inch extra space around the printer, with no wrapping of any kinda except some loose plastic covered foam placed around sparingly.
bottom had non at all. With all the padding, the printer rolled around a good 4 inches which spit the printer in 2 damaging cracking plastic pieces and gears. Trashing the printer into a parts unit.

I was told it was in great condition, exactly what i was looking for. Even with damage it was very yellow form UV.

I go to fedex all the time. I get things pro wrapped sometimes. 4 inches bubble wrap cardboard on corners. I do same at home if I pack it my self. If damaged from me my fault.
I sold a 1921 Federal Radio to a guy in NY. Sold for $1000 worth $1400. I paid for extra shipping, insurance and 4inches of wrapped packed and tight. Peace of mind.

I don't know what your problem is. The $ 110.00 price was $ 30.00 for the printer and $ 80.00 for the shipping, EXACTLY what I spent on the TWO packages sent! I cannot file a claim once the item is returned to me. I am out $ 110.00. If you had let the claim process go through you would have been whole. Instead your got petulant and impatatient with waiting for a claim to be filed. I don't have your money, PayPal has already put it on hold. It will be released to you upon the printers return. I only hope you included the cartridge, cables and user's guide I sent separately or I will fight the refund with PayPal. Again, GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!
