Hi,

After some initial difficulties with the video section of my Newton I, I managed to find the culprit with the help of the 2513 datasheet. I've got one non-working and one semi-working 2504v(maybe). I removed the former chip and now got the alternating characters of ^'s and blinking @'s. Clear screen works and displays the blinking @ sign at the upper left corner of the screen. The video seems to be half-working. Smile Well atleast I got the blinking/flashing @.

While I wait for the new 2504v's to arrive I thought I could just proceed with the microcomputer section. And I did and resetting seems to work with the blinking '@' sign and a '\' above it. Yoohoo!:)

Now I need a keyboard to test it further. I'm thinking of using an Arduino board to interface a ps2 keyboard but I'm not sure yet how. Any ideas? On the Apple I keyboard, what's the STROBE use?

Hello snazzify,
first off all congat´s....
there are several solutions out there for adapting a keyboard to the Apple I....

just short explenation....
the strobe is used for communication between the Apple 1 mainboard and the keyboard....

if you press a key at the keyboard the value of the pressed key is kept in the buffer of the
keyboard until it is picked up from the logic of the mainboard ( reading that value ) and then
the mainboard logic signaling to the keyboard that the character has been read
the strobe signals to the keyboard that it may clear the buffer by one character and put
next character ready for pickup / reading.

Thanks speedyG!

I've tested a PS/2 keyboard using Arduino Uno and it seems to work. Just need to get a ribbon cable with connector for the keyboard socket instead of jumper cables. I've looked at eBay but I'm not sure which to find. Can anyone tell me what cable and connector to use?

Good day!

I meant the connector or header connector that connects to the Apple I board's keyboard socket.

I was aware of the connector at the mainboard -
my question targeted to the connector at the arduino....

just to give a link to the connector at the mainbaord:

Thanks.

Right now I'm just using jumper cables to connect the arduino uno to the keyboard socket on the Newton I board. It will be the same socket and connector on both ends.

Second link does not load from here. First link, yes that is the connector I'm looking but what is it called? I don't understand the language?16pin dual inline ic socket? Smile

Jameco will not load from here. Maybe not available here in the Philippines yet?

It would be nice if I can find something similar to this https://flic.kr/p/EgTwUy
