Hi,
I have an Apple II Rev.01 with Keyboard Rev-2
The System starts With Applesoft prompt after 1 +4 beeps, sometimes two ] prompts and a slash /,
I swapped it for another keyboard and it works fine...
when the original Keyboard is installed ,only working :
-Light Power Key
-Reset
The rest doesn't
Any tips how to start to make it working again?
Thanks.
Have you used an ohm meter to check that the key switches are actually functioning?
Try to isolate the faulty IC
Hi Wayne,
Swapping for a working one today I realized that the Big IC (KB Encoder?) is Faulty
Any idea where to get one of them?
Thanks.
MM5740/AAE are very hard to find, and there is a fair chance that even if you find one, that it will not work. For some reason, a high percentage of them on the surplus market are faulty.
note that AAC and AAD suffixes will not work, they have a different encoding scheme. I think an AAF might work in the Apple II application, but don't know for sure.
you might try surplus businesses like littlediode.com that has a listing for them, but no stock.
regards,
Mike Willegal
There are still a few out there, not exactly cheap but ...

I would first insure this is for the 40 pin IC, as their photo indicates otherwise.
Thanks guys,
I'll give them a look...
Anyone try this eBay seller? I was thinking of buying and sent an message to the seller asking about the size of the DIP package and have not received a response.

Just FYI, on the auction page it says the seller is away until October 8.
