Hey, I have owned a VidHD and used it in my Apple IIe and IIgs for a couple of years now, with a Samsung HDMI TV.
In preparation for expanding to a new retro space, I bought several Dell 2007fpb monitors as they support VGA, DVI and SVHS
I understand that HDMI and DVI are signal compatible, and that a simple HDMI to DVI adapter, or cable should get the HDMI from my VidHD to my DVI of my Dell screen.
Problem is, it does not work.
I have tried both a HDMI to DVI adapter, with a few different HDMI cables (and adapters) and also a specific HDMI to DVI cable, and nothing.
The Dell monitor reacts to my IIgs turning on, by saying no cable is attached.
Does anyone have experience with this issue?
Cheers
Chris
Anybody?
Some conversions/resolutions just don't work. It's just the way it is.
No I haven't run into th same issure, but agree with rittwage that you should confirm the signals spec of the VidHD output against the supported modes of the monitors, including resolution, depth, and frequency. The monitor's native resolution is 1600x1200 so 4:3 but 1600:1200 seems a little odd (but it's been too long to recall).

I'm guessing the VidHD wants to output a HD signal 1920 x 1080 and the DELL cannot go that high? But then, you'd think the VidHD would drop back to a lower resolution as its upscaling a MUCH lower resolution really, to HD and it would suffice for it to be say 1042x768 and still look completely fine. I DID email the maker as I recall, but received no reply that I could find. I'll see if I can source the manual for the VidHD, maybe it can be set to output at a lower resolution.
Unfortunately the manual says it "will not work with displays smaller than 1080p"
found a similar complaint in usenet - it only outputs 1080p - https://comp.sys.apple2.narkive.com/hCDSe8O5/vidhd-display-issues
I use a Dell 2007fpb for retrocomputing as its got a lot of inputs, and 1600x1200 is truly 4:3 where as other LCDs of that time period are 1280x1024 which is 5:4 ratio.
I use mine on a IIGS with an OSSC and a DB15 to SCART video cable
