Apple Imagewriter II Sheet Feeder

The Imagewriter II works fine; the problem is with the Sheet Feeder--which doesn't work. The paper won't descend to be grabbed by the roller. As a result, the on/off light stays red, indicating "no paper" and the "form feed" and "select" buttons don't light up. I can manually insert a single sheet into the Sheet Feeder and that will work--but one can of course do that without using the Sheet Feeder at all! Why won't the Sheet Feeder grab one sheet after another so as to feed them into the Imagewritier? The Sheet Feeder seems to be correctly positioned and the electrical connection at the back joining the Sheet Feeder to the Imagewriter is seated properly, as far as I can tell. Any ideas?

Does the Sheet Feeder have its own Mechanical switch for the Paper detect??

I would guess that adding the Sheet Feeder, sets up a mode that looks for the Paper Detect Switch, but that Switch is not getting a signal to the printer...

Re: Apple Imagewriter II Sheet Feeder

Another problem in former days has been, that several papersheetfeeders didn´t work correct with a pile of paper inside - with less than 10 to 15 sheets of paper..... with larger pile the feeder grabed the sheet.... that problem was related to the rubberroll and not having enough tension to the smaller pile...

Re: Apple Imagewriter II Sheet Feeder

Just As thought.
I have seen it many times in laser or inkjet printers. Is the paper light or heavy enough that the sheet feeder detects it and can grab the paper.
Also is the feeder trying to grab the paper and falling to feed/grab it. This is some times caused by the rollers being dusty or having static on them and the paper can't be grabed by the roller. If the roller feels gritty or dusty gently clean it with rubbing alcohol . It will clean the dust and static off and any body oil that may have been left by fingers over the years . Note do not rub hard ! If the roller is rubber it may be deteriorating from age. This solved 75% of the coustomers that had printer problems when I worked for Wal-Mart back then . I spent 10 years in the electronics dept . 286 computers to windows vista and I saw the last of dot matrix to thermal photo printers also.
