Appraise my iMac! *Need help finding price to sell iMac**

Hello!
I want to know what the maximum amount I can sell my Indigo (Summer 2000) iMac G3 with the Keyboard and mouse for. I have the power cord as well.
It's in great shape, no cosmetic issues with a fresh install of 0S9, 128 mb of ram, with a 10gb HD. The speakers do crackle a bit with loud sounds. But that happens to almost every iMac DV.

Thanks!

Speakers crackling isn't common with DVs. Unless it has gone through some heavy heat issues. You can tell by looking at the top near the apple logo and looking for cracked plastic underneath the outer case. That's the first plastic to crack. As for the price, $25-30 on a good day. The Indigo is the most common imac.

Thanks! I was told by another apple fritter user that the DV crackling was common, though.

There is absolutely NO cracking on the case, and only 1-2 small scuffs. It looks like new, unlike all of the other cracked, scuffed, sharpie laden others I've seen.

I'd expect that shipping would cost more than the machine is worth. And thats if you can even find a buyer.

Speaker crackling--speaker decay in the DV is VERY common. The Harmon Kardan speaker cones disintegrate over time. This was not the case with the original iMacs which had cheaper speakers. The environment where it's used probably does have a lot to do with the rate of decay.

128mb SDRAM, 10GB 12 year old HD, bad speakers, original hockey-puck mouse?, CD, CDRW, or DVD? Um...

Keyboard= $10
DVD drive= $5

The whole setup?= the smile on the kid next door who you give it to.

But you know, with selling anything, there can be rare surprises. I'd just give it to the kid next door. The gift may come back to you in ways more valuable. A very young kid, that is. Most kids older than seven are thinking iPad or nothing, although, those days may be fast a-changing as the country continues into downgrade.

My side job is to decommission computers. I currently work with 3 schools, 1 university and many businesses. I have yet come across bad speakers in any iMac (any revision). That's not including the ones that the students have poked with pencils, pens and paper clips. I have on the other hand tossed many imacs that have dried out gray plastic (the base plastic under the outer colored and clear case). Which is extremely common now. It's almost like it was made to last ten years only. It's unbelievable how brittle it is.

good news! I have a friend offering to buy it for $50.00... exactly what I paid for it! I shan't make a profit, but I will have made a fair deal. :3

Very strangely, you and I have entirely different experiences with the iMac DV. I have a garage full of decommissioned iMac DV's right now from a local elementary school and IIRC, almost all of them have bad speakers. Open the case and the black plastic from the speaker cones comes crumbling out. I've encountered this with the majority of DV's that have gone through my hands in the past five years or so. I'll take a picture and post it here the next time I crack one open. The base plastic problem you describe, if I'm reading you correctly, is not a problem I'm experiencing. I'm thinking that it must be because of a fundamental difference in environments. Maybe to your surprise, air conditioning is not prevalent at all in the part of the island I live in. None of the elementary schools are air conditioned, and few of the houses. The trade winds are prevalent enough year round to keep things comfortable. I'm wondering if the environment your DV's came from is air conditioned, and the air conditioning is turned off at night so that there are temperature extremes weakening the plastic during the summer. My speaker cone problem--humidity perhaps.

Nice to hear you broke even, smileyranger, and so quickly.

That is very interesting. Yes the a/c is on during the day and most likely shut off at night. On the east coast the a/c is running all the time. Matter of fact we are in our 5 or 6th heat wave and August has just started. But we have our humidity as well. Nothing like rain forest weather, it'll get the best of anyone. So yes that has got to be the answer, weird but the answer. I can't tell you how many good speakers I have thrown out with the crumbling chassis's.

We had a heat index of 110 tuesday where I live...The humidity actually fogged up my MacBook... :mac:

That is odd, the differences. The casing seems O.K. on my iMac g3. Although, I've only taken it apart once, so it could prove to be a bit of an unbiased opinion.
I'm sure you could sell those speakers to people like Hawaii Cruiser.
