In looking around eBay today, I found an Auction for a Firmware Card from "Software Dimensions, Inc". ( see attached picture )
Further Searching located the this info at Worldcat:
Accounting plus general accounting system reference manual .
Author: Software Dimensions Inc.
Publisher: Citrus Heights, CA : Software Dimensions, Inc., ©1981.
Edition/Format: Book : English
And this Info from Usenet, at Mac GUI:
Software Dimensions Firmware ID card sw-15006. What is it?
So in Weaving all the Threads Together, it appears that the Firmware Card is a Hardware Protection device for a General Accounting System made by Software Dimensions Inc., who was Acquired by ASK Corporation, who was then Acquired by Computer Associates.
As an interesting note, the Firmware Card on eBay is located in Citrus Heights, California, United States, which is where Software Dimensions Inc. was located.. I wonder if someone was cleaning out there closet?
The better joke is the following:
what is the use for a card that ( similar to a dongle ) just permits you to use a software that is completely outdated with old taxlists and old loanlists from the 80´s ???
And it can be ALL YOURS, for the Low Price of $39.99 ( USD ) and Free Shipping ( But maybe not Internationally )
But seriously.. I posted this so that Future ( Apple ) Historians would discover its True Value.....
Hey MarkO
Long dormant thread but really, I found no other source of info for this card.
I was wondering if you still had this card. I have found my parents' apple ii in the attic with a bunch of floppies with the software and data.
Sadly the Accounting Plus II software won't start without the firmware card (hardware lock). If you still have the card, would you consider selling it?
If you want to keep it, could I ask you to dump the firmware and upload it? I would help me and possibly others trying to recover old data from yester years.
The instructions on how to do is here: https://bitsavers.org/pdf/apple/apple_II/Moore_The_Parameter_Guide.pdf - page 85.

You only need to do steps A and B and upload the FIRMWARE file.
Hope you can help.
Thanks!
