Re: THIS is Laughable!

Nice joke in the text below...
but the best would be to catch up the idea itself.... make a clip for you tube or clipfish... :
modern PC - insert enhanced Kit ... turn switch on.... BIG METAMORPHISIS ... result : Apple IIe enhanced at work....
with some good morphing tool that clip could become a sledgehammer-hit in you tube....

The big reason this is laughable is the fact that you can buy a complete kit from
ReactiveMicro for $25.00. Smile

The //e Enhancement Kit is currently listed as $30.00..

For your $49.95 you do get "The Official" Apple //e Enhancement Kit... That might make a difference for some people....

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Try this for measure then

A Signed Apple ][+ lid by both Steves.

Starting bid $10,000

Yes that's right $10,000

Would be worth it if a plain Apple ][ lid, but not a ][+ Smile Smile

Re: THIS is Laughable!

You're right.

If this were an Original Apple II Lid that would be one thing and it might be woth 1/2 of what he is asking.
But, you and I both know that it should be priced at maybe 1/4 of what he is asking.
We also know that as P.T. Barnum said "There's one born every minute.", so someone will shell out ten grand for it and think it's a bargain.
I have said it time and time again it is only worth what people are willing to pay for it.
I stand by that reasoning. Smile

I was sitting here re-reading this thread and it occured to me that there aught to be an Annual Award given to the " e-Bay Most Outrageous Apple Auction".

This could also be known as "The P.T. Barnum Award".

Given out once per year by Fritter Critters in recognition of the most outlandish Apple items placed on e-Bay.

Who knows? It might be fun. lol Smile

Dean,

I think the first item on the list is the Framed Apple II Plus Lid with both Steve's Signatures for $10,000.00.

Yes...That would do nicely. Smile

Re: THIS is Laughable!

this user at ebay in Germany is outing himself as true "lan-expert".....
look at :
http://www.ebay.de/itm/330662944448?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
and read the text below to recognize the issued serialno.:
"Seriennummer: HD74LS05P" ... it seems that this expert is to stupid to recognize that this is the
typspec of one of the chips !
this user is famous for his offers and the moonrocketing of his demanded prices:
499 Euro for a old yellowed and dirty IIc without monitor
499 Euro for an old IIe
699 Euro for a IIe with Epson printer
its really amazing .... this guy seems to believe everything he gets touch on - turns to pure gold....

The Description is beyond belief!

According to the seller, this is a "VERY SPECIAL 128k Mac"! Why? Because it has the simulated Mac Team signatures in it! Like IT is the ONLY ONE. lol

I just finished writing him an e-mail to let him know that THEY ALL had the Team Sigs. Smile

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Yeah it's incredible just how stupid some people can be. I'm sure he's probably thinking "Steve Jobs died and people will be scrambling to get the old Apple stuff, so I can ask a ridiculous price for this set up and probably get it." I'd be surprised if he manages to sell it, but then again there are stupid people out there with too much money and no brains. We'll see what happens.

(Showing my age...)

George Carlin used to say "That's my job. To think up stupid s**t."

It seems that eBay's job is to bring out the (I won't say "Stupid") ill informed sellers.

They place thier stuff up for sale without a thought for all the factors: availability, condition, the economy, etc. They don't even look to see who else is selling the same thing they are, whether the prices are higher or lower. They just think "It's an Apple II (computer, PCB, or whatever). Someone will pay me big bucks for it.

It is a continuous amazement to me. Smile

Re: THIS is Laughable!

i guess quite a lot of them are just from another planet .....
they didn´t grow up with the items ... they just sweep out the houses of those who passed away and while tossing the mess in the container they spot out an item and think "oh gosh! i won the lottery - Jobs is dead and i got the jackpot" - and

then they run for ebay and hope it sells like the car from the pope..... just look at the joke above, when a guy gives himself a name as "lanexpert" at ebay and is that stupid that he can´t recognize the difference between a chipcode and the serialno. .....

and at the other hand there are the guys that have the money to throw it off the window - that believe after Jobs passed away this is an investment that can´t miss - and in their greedyness hope to make a deal ....
like the paintings from a painter that passed away this must be a big deal????

the end is like the bubble of the early 2002 on the former internetdeals where everybody kicked of the money in wallstreet to everything - if it just had the ending .com or .net - every bubble will blast someday ... the question is not "if", the question is just "what day"...

greed is a funny kind of sickness - those that suffer from it can´t realize it - until the money faints away with some smoke... and after the smoke is gone - you´ll find the guys in the bar at the corner: " in early days i was rich but then some day it happened to me ...."

avrice seems to be infectious and it seems too that it is resistant to antibiotics and sanity.....

Re: THIS is Laughable!

On the one hand, the prices for these will only continue to rise, as functioning systems die off and get trashed, or simply wear out. OR they get into the wrong hands that don't understand the value..whatever

On the other hand, them ebayers get insulted when you tell them the real current value.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

I don't know, from the pics it looks like a very nice disk ][ unit. And it could be worth the $100.00

What gets my shorts bunched up is the folks selling clock cards for almost $500 bux. I can't possibly imagine paying that much for a common bit of kit. I ask them what is unique about the cards and they say you can't find them anywhere.

the remarkable thing is that the price is now exactly 20 time of the original price ( US $ 120 in 1987 ) !

Re: THIS is Laughable!

The Seller "Cheribly" is another person that I have been buying items from for years. It is only in the last year that her starting prices for auctions have been going through the roof. She; like a lot of others have all gotten "Stevesdeaditis".

It's just my opinion, but there are a couple of points I would like to bring up:

1. Steve Jobs was part of a two man team, not a one man band.
2. Steve Wozniak built the original Apple 1 and the Apple II circuit designs.
Steve Jobs put them in a case and sold them.
3. The time you will have to watch is when Woz passes away. I imagine that the price for
everything related to the Apple II will go bananas.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

From the thread "apple I for sale" a citation of a statement made there few weeks ago:

"we have the "after SJ aera" ... but some poeple seem to forget the facts... the "after Wozniak aera" has not begun yet.... and he was for sure more involved to the apple 1 than Jobs has ever been.... there are some parallels to the story around Uderzo & Gosciny ... the guys that made the Asterix-comics... the one survived the other for decades...
and i surely wish Wozniak to repeat that... I hope that I won´t read his "famous last words" within the next years and that he´ll be happy to spend future times....
... the world will still turn on... and we´ll view such sitcom movies at ebay and /or sothebies within the next years several times... that´s for sure !"

I agree to the statement from gsmcten and haven´t changed in the last weeks ....
lot of guys out there are infected by the desease of greed.....

Re: THIS is Laughable!

There's lots of monkey-see-monkey-do pricing on ePay now. Ignorance reigns supreme.

Many many recent conversations with sellers have repeatedly told me they look at what others are selling an item for, and base their price from that. 15 out of 18 sellers have told me that. And no amount of reasoning seems to change it. I suppose they'll need to learn a lesson by waiting and waiting and waiting for a sale.

They have done little to no research on what the item is. They don't even know what the items are used for, except that they are "rare" and "associated" with Steve Jobs.

The sellers seem infected with "jobitis". And the cure is $$$.

Who here is gonna pay $100 for a Disk ][ controller today?
$600 for a Vulcan card?
$3500 for a Mountain Music System?
$135 for a generic 16K memory card?
$787 for a book of schematics? (especially when it's in .pdf on the web?) This hasn't moved in like 3 years or something.
$500 for a clock card? Same here, it isn't moving, and I believe it started at $649.
$30 for a box of 10 floppies? Insane.

One thing that has remained remarkably stable in price is the Transwarp and Titan accelerators. These have always moved at $200 - $300 depending on how many are for sale. This has been like that since ePay opened for business

Well folks, I invite you to bookmark this -- http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=%22Apple+II%22&_trkparms=65%253A3%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1&rt=nc&_sc=1&_sticky=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=16&_sc=1#item130636343131 -- and anytime you need a laugh just look at the first page.

Just imagine when Woz passes away. Even the //e's are gonna go to $50,000 sooner or later! Bwaaahahahhaaaa!!!

The high prices on stuff lately is what actually led me to finding my Twiggy Mac. I used to be in the business of repairing and reselling old surplus Macs in the late 90's. I thought it couldn't hurt to check out if I could find some hoard of old stuff locally and take it on again as a part time hobby.

They're only gonna go up from here. I fear the vintage gear will eventually fall into hands that don't understand the hobby, and the prices will continue to be high. Either that, or the stuff will just get thrown out.

So my advice is to hang on to your gear and keep it it.

Tis'prolly another consignment jobbie where the original seller sees $$$ and knows nothing.

Ha! I remember when I was 5th grader brat, and threw a hissyfit when I spent my paper route money on one of these. All of but 90 bucks. And it did nothing to speed up my games or make the graphics better. Absolutely nothing!

Re: THIS is Laughable!

GSMCTEN,
You beat me to it on posting the 2000 bucks Apple IIc :)...but hey, the shipping is free!

Yesterday two seperate auctions ended for the Infocom game Trinity (not a rare game...another one, complete in the box, was listed for $12.00 today). Both were complete and easy to find in the Apple Ebay listings. One went for 8.50 plus $4.00 shipping, it was tested and working. The other was untested and went for over 100 bucks??? Greed is just one side of the coin...bidders willing to pay outlandish prices is the other side of the coin. I often wonder if you could get the bidders with more money then sense to stop feeding the greed, if prices would start to fall to a more reasonable level?.....I know its a pipe dream Smile

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Well, then, by all rights and logical reasoning, all the junk in my mega-haul should be pulling in $25,000 if I ebay it! But thankfully I am allowed to keep it for the time being.

One other thing. Bidders should be somehow educated on what this stuff is worth. But it'll be great to see the day when $500 clock cards are actually moving. Or $299.95 Disk ][ drives.

All I can say for now is hoard all the Apple 2 series stuff you can, while you can, at these cheap prices.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

yeah... probably it might be the time to sell my original boxes from the Sinclair ZX81 and the Sinclair 16kb RAM Expansiob Box - both boxes with intact foam parts.... - each box a decade more old ( 1975 so this must be real "antik" ) than the displayed boxes at ebay ... so they must realy get a buyer with 100 bucks per box ! Probably i´d find other "antik" boxes out there in the dumpyard and some guys willing to turn them into real bucks ???

Probably the guys digging for Gold in Alaska should instead start digging the Goldmines within the paper-recycling-yards and hit faster the bucks than in Alaska !

Yeah! I'm sure that Transwarp GS will sell for about $350 or so.
I've been watching them lately. YIKES! And those Vulcan Cards are outrageous!

Re: THIS is Laughable!

To All,

This thread is for informing you what is going on out in the secondary market; especially eBay. I spend time there every day looking at the Apple items for sale, both Apple II and Mac.

I have tried to abstain from making any personal remarks about the sellers, except when I know them and have bought items from them in the past and I am respectful about it.

Usually I make a short comment and then post the link to the item. That is all.

It is up to the readers of this thread whether or not the items that I link to are worth the price being asked, or not. I do not control what people think or do with that information. If you decide that a response or comment is in order, I would appreciate it if you kept it respectful.

This thread may, or may not be shut down by the powers that be.
If it is I will abide by that, but until then I will continue to place links here so that everyone can see what sellers are attempting to do.

Regards to all,

Steven

Re: THIS is Laughable!

What is going on in the secondary market is that prices have been going up.
The prices have been going up for a long time, If you are an ebay bidder, you would already know this.
Here is the ebay list of what Apple II items actually sold for:
http://www.ebay.com/csc/i.html?_nkw=%22Apple%20II%22&rt=nc&LH_Complete=1&_fln=1&_sc=1&_sop=16&_sticky=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m283

Notice the common Infocom "grey box" that sold for $180, Isn't that what you used to pay for the rarer Suspended "face mask" a couple of years ago steve?
It's the bidders that make the market.

Cheribly has not gotten "Stevesdeaditis", you should apologize to her directly.
She has provided good service to the many Apple II users for many years now.

You are wrong Steve, if you have opened any number of the old MAC's you would know that they don't all have the team signatures molded into the case.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

According to several references that I have read over the last six months, every case from the original Mac 128 up to and including the SE had the team signatures embossed in the case. These References include the new Steve Jobs Autobigraphy, so if I'm wrong, they are.

I never tell anyone anything until I have done my homework.

I said in that part of the thread that I too have bought my share of items from Cheribly and have never had any problems. The reference to "Stevesdeaditis" is a general attitude of some, not all, sellers since SJs death that they can jack up thier prices to astronomical proportions.

Lastly; these are my opinions, not gospel. You may feel the need for me to apologize for my opinions, but I do not.

Here is another "Rocket" !
http://www.ebay.de/itm/200706018790?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
the remarkable thing is that the price is now exactly 20 time of the original price ( US $ 120 in 1987 ) !
So this is for sure another candidate for the gallery....
god bless the greedy...

Do you have a 1987 Dacta catalog with prices??
I have a 1995 Dacta catalog that has the price for an Apple II version 951 starter pack at $565.00 on sale for $454.00
I don't know where you got your price from.

My price is from german stores in Deutsche Mark ... it was in the year 1990 an amount of 180 German Marks and in 1990 that was little more than $ 120 USD....

probably they needed to add the transport to US to the price.... but that does not explain the difference to a price that you spot out here..... even with transportation and customfees the price should not have passed 250.00.....
