Yeah I don't get it. Was an early motherboard with all of the wrong chips (date wise) worth $3500.00?
Jennifer
Mornin' all,
Yes; I have seen these items and a few more besides.
I figured someone would report them here. lol
This IIe is back:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/252833636067?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I wrote the seller and asked why none of his
waiting friends didn't buy the unit for $5k?
I have not received an answer.
And then theres this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/252833636067?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Untested? He doesn't even know if they're the right chips. lol
Steven
That second link is the same as the first one.
That second link is the same as the first one.
Oh Well...
Even I make mistakes sometimes. lol
The second link was supposed to lead to a set of Lisa ROM Chips. Untested
Found it!

35K Apple IIe:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-e-IIe-Enhanced-Computer-System-original-boxes-disks-manual-more-1984-/401300173083?hash=item5d6f5ab11b:g:t~4AAOSwax5Y1G9S
What an arsehole.
Did this dude just jack up the price of an auction we'd already seen here? Looks very familiar.
Apparently, it costs US$2,200 to ship this package to my house in Ontario, Canada. Must be coming by limousine.
Shirley no one is THAT deluded...
I'm guessing this is another misplaced decimal (like the $3500 printer card from a couple of pages back). $350.00, while not exactly a bargain, would be a believable price.
So... If you though this was "ludicrous"...
Try this one....
( Same Seller, Same Auction... )
MarkO
This must be his response to all us naysayers that believed his $17,000 asking price was too much. So he jacked the price to $35K lol... for an apple IIe no less! Literally the most common apple II out there.
Yep...
Even a Vent-less Apple ][ hasn't gone for That Much...
MarkO
Must have a couple bars of Nazi gold taped to the power supply. Those are super heavy and really jack up the shipping cost. :-0
It's almost as if the sellers are sort of bidding amongst themselves and whoever wins is the one who asks the most for the same product. So far, this guy is winning.
And yeah, what an arsehole.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/401300173083?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Yep. It's back at twice the price.
I wrote the seller and told him
he must be a gluten for punishment.
I'm waiting for a response now.
I just can't believe this dude.
Steven
He only takes gluten-free punishment.
Be glad you're not a politician because all of the folks who have celiac sprue would be bashing you over the head for that remark.
BTW: it's GLUTTON for punishment.
He told me the first listing was to let people in on the ground floor. And that it would eventually be raised to the proper full value.
This is an April Fools Joke.... Right????
I haven't even seen an Ventless Apple ][ Sell for that much.. Let alone a ][e System....
MarkO
Not an April fools joke. Just reporting what I was told. He also said he was in no hurry to sell it.
insanitor:
I sit corrected. lol
Keatah:
At that price he may have to keep it
and more power to him.
Steven
Everyone -
I just wanted to make you aware of an Apple II I have for sale on eBay (A2S1-8069).. bought it a few years ago myself on eBay but have not had an opportunity to use it..
http://www.ebay.com/itm/252841998650
At that price he will have it until it turns to dust.
This guy has GOT to be the biggest joke on eBay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/152503119223?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
$218.00 for a used IIc Brick??
Steven
The funniest part is he used all 12 pictures and 11 of them are different angles of the BOX!
I found something even better.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/COLLECTORS-VINTAGE-APPLE-COMPUTER-MOUSE-NEW-PRESERVED-SEALED/162464946706
I don't know if it really that funny. You look at his selling page, and he obviously sells stuff at insane prices. I once sold a late model Apple II revision 4 to a guy who gets featured on this thread a lot. It was in poor cosmetic condition. I was happy to get what he paid me. What was funny, is he sold it for over 2k, which was about 4 times more then I got. I honestly could never sell it at that price. I think the key to their selling is magic. I'm talking Harry Potter stuff here....
Ladies and gents, it is IMPORTANT to remember these are "collector" items. "Apple" + "collector" = $$$ dollah signs $$$ LQQK!!
I am inclined to believe that there are two groups involved in the sales of these items at such ludicrously high prices...
Group 1 - rubes who don't do their research and believe that eBay auctions are the best way to determine market value for anything, and
Group 2 - little guilds, if you will, of those who make these insanely-priced purchases among themselves in order to simply drive the prices up, and then victimize those in group 1.
It happens in vintage watch purchases too. I collect vintage digital watches, and I am acutely aware that the prices some people ask for their watches are at obvious rip-off levels, and yet, at some point, they get "sold" which, in turn, drives up the prices for everyone else. These dudes never pay for the items - the sales get cancelled, or whatever, quietly - but the item still shows up on eBay as sold for that price. Then the guy miraculously has another one to sell, and after that, a couple more show up.
I've had a couple of sellers say to me, "Look, I want to sell one too - if you want, set your BIN for $X (X being a ridiculous price), and I'll buy it. Don't charge me for it, but then just cancel the sale, then you can sell that same watch again for more than you're going to get right now, then I'll sell mine."
And ebay won't prevent canceled items from showing up in the completed listings. Because it makes for higher profits when a real sale goes through.
Buyers can be unreasonable too. I'm following a thread where someone is considering offering like $30 for a II+ console. Wonder how that will go over?
---
regarding that $35,000 Apple //e, how can the seller have like 6,000 other items for sale? What am I missing here?

Here's one that I'm not sure of:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/162470830973?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Hmmmm.
Plus a sampling of over priced IIe units:

Steven
Hi Steven.
Yeah that Bell & Howell Apple II+ where the keyboard doesn't even work sounds like a bit overpriced at $900+
I saw one earlier today that was in good shape, had two of the B&H disk drives and it went for $700!! (Yeah, I bought it)
Is it just me or are people going crazy due to that article which showed how much "your old computers" could be worth?
Jennifer
UPDATE!
I received the computer and it was chock full of various cards!! Power supply is dead as a dead can be, but it had:
So I am THRILLED with the goodies! And they included all the original manuals, etc.
~Jennifer
Jennifer,
No, it's not just you.
On occasion I have overpaid for something that I knew damned well
that I could have gotten at a cheaper price.
I think we have all done it at one time or another.
We're human (and collectors) after all. lol
Steven

These usually move for 25$ at best, yes?
Keatah,
Usually between $16.50 and $25.00.
He's a "Book Seller".
They list higher than most.
Steven
Really???:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/152513360393?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I laugh in it's general direction.
Steven
It has "Apple II+" handwritten on it! It is automagically $$$valuable$$$
Here's another crazy person:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/222478677774?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
They're not even Apple Brand.
Steven
They're the twiggies, aren't they?
Yup.
The only thing I can hear in my head right now is The Pipkins, Gimmie Dat Ding.
WHAT AN IDIOT!!
LOL, indeed!
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Vintage-Apple-II-A2S1-2129-low-S-N-working-/252869232234?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=2iqNQh2%252BJLDPdJivrFCMnyNCd20%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
Are we moving to lower prices ?
A Rev. 0 went for 5K ...
Well it's not in great condition and it's not a super low serial number with a ventless case so price sounds about average.
A Mac Classic II for $5k???
http://www.ebay.com/itm/122457726580?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Now THAT is laughable. LOL
The IIe Report:

The II Plus Report:
http://www.ebay.com/sch/Computers-Tablets-Networking/58058/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=apple+II+Plus&LH_PrefLoc=1&_sop=16
I could not get the IIc and IIgs lists to sort.
Steven
Yeah, I tried to argue on that one too... There were other people suggesting that and lower also. Everyone like to get a good deal, but that's a little unreasonably low.
It's not just on eBay. It's happening on Amazon too. Read this: http://macgui.com/blogs/?e=483
This is from shopgoodwill. It really made me laugh. https://www.shopgoodwill.com/auctions/Vintage-Apple-Computer-With-Disk-Drives-39015401.html You really need to view the photos and read the description.
"There is no memory in it." Hmm I wonder why there is no memory in it, could it be that the computer might be a monitor? only a genius with 2 nobell prizes can figure this one out!
