Continuously Variable Slope Demodulator

ok, this is strange. I was looking in macktracker, the wonderful application about every mac, powerbook, iPod, Mac OS, newton, Scanner, Printer, Camera, Mouse and Keyboard Apple ever made, and in the profile for the Mac XL/Lisa, under the expansion/ports tab, listed under audio out is "Continuously Variable Slope Demodulator (CVSD).

could anybody explain what this does, and how it works? and what it is doing in a mac?

it cant be a speaker, can it? I mean, there isnt a boot beep listed for the Lisa. or is it just not in the application?

any help? thanks. -digital Wink
