Hello everyone,
I am going to get a PowerBook (FireWire) soon, and I need a few questions and recomendations about this machine.
Here are the specs:
400MHz G3
384 MB of Ram
6 GB Hard Drive (stock)
DVD ROM Drive (stock)
Mac OS 10.1 something
#1. Now I am already planning on upgrading the OS, But what OS would everyone recomend, Panther or Tiger considering the Ram and HD?
#2. Is this a good machine for basic web surfing and MSN for Mac, and maybe watching QuickTime movies and/or YouTube/Google video etc?
#3. What version of iTunes would run suitably well on this computer without upgrading the CPU? The requirements for iTunes 7 are a 500MHz G3 but I would assume it would still run ok considering my IBM ThinkPad 600E runs it okay at 366MHz PII and the requirements are "500MHz Pentium class processor or better."
I know I could definetely get a better Mac, But I have always wanted the Pismo PowerBook, and I just LOVE the form factor, and I don't need a whole lot of power either. Now if some people could tell me their opinions I would appriecate it.
Thanks in advance,
Mr. Goodbytes
I'd say panther for that amount of ram, and itunes 7 runs awesome on my 400mhz pismo.
I am still planning on getting the Pismo, But I don't think I will be getting it as soon as I thought. The guy who was gonna buy my ThinkPad said he found a faster and more powerful one, go figure. But I definetely still want to get the Pismo, so its not like your wasting your breath posting here.
EDIT: Funnyman, how does the visualizer run on your Pismo with iTunes 7?
ive got itunes 7 on my pismo with mac os x 10.4.8, and its really jerkey, but almost acceptable.
I'm running iTunes 7 on a Lombard with Panther on it. It's a 333MHz vs. your 400MHz and a 66MHz bus vs. your 100MHz bus, and it runs quite good so if it runs on my older machine, it will certainly work on yours.

go panther with 384mb ram..i am running tiger with 512mb ram and its fine
