So sad...

I can say, i have never bought from them, but it's so sad to see a money grubbing Company like SONY to pull a stunt like this to keep it's followers from something they all want:
Competition
It's also sad that the UK Government let them get away with this. Like someone said on their forums, The UK Government goes with which side is going to pay them more with taxes, etc...

That's basically what happens in America too, just another way Corporate bullying will be able to put small businesses out of work
Same goes for M$ too. Another reason I don't buy from either of them (i got my PS-One from a friend) and I never will after this. I will now refuse to take ANYTHING Sony after this, no matter if it is free, or bought. This is just stupid...

sony

As a general rule, I never buy sony products.
They keep churning out their own proprietary formats that are incompatible with generally accepted ones. Then they make you pay through the nose to buy them from sony, because they refuse to license their technologies. Even after several failures (most notably Betamax, minidisc, and ATRAC), they just never learn!

awful...

Lik-Sang has been an amazing company. Ive been a regular customer (4-5 times a year) for the last 3 years.

Sony on the other hand is a ridiculous giant who hasn't made a sound decision in AT LEAST 2 years... especially in their gaming division.

First they pull the force feedback from the controller because they wouldnt pay to liscence the tech. from the company they stole it from... then when they saw the Wii controller they stole the motion detection from Nintendo... then they decide to price their new console a good $300.00 above reasonable.... oh yeah, and we're going to make two physically different units of the PS3 as well, so thast if you buy the "cheap" one first and then get a new high def TV and you want to hook up to it with an HDMI cable so it looks great...well, youve got to buy the "expensive" model... since the connectors have been deliberatly removed from the "low end" bundle... (many, many more things along the way... but lets fast forward...) they kill one of (if not the) best video game import/exporters in the world.

all over an awful handheld that is getting trounced by a gimmicky handheld from nintendo.... Dont blame Nintendo or Lik-Sang for your lack of revenue from the PSP... blame yourselves for "fixing" the firmware everytime someone figures out how to run their own code on it. oh, and just generally not supporting the PSP

yaaay sony!!

i literally just took one of my 5 PS2's out into the streeet and smashed it.

note: i have never purchased a PS2, they have all been failed mod attempts from "friends" of mine who killed them... so they gave them to me and i fixed them.

Maybe

Betamax might have been trounced by VHS, but it lived on for a long time, gave us fair use in video taping, got shrunk and converted to Video-8, Hi8, Digital8, and the pro Betacam has a healthy life. Sony may be wonky, but some of the stuff they get their undies in a wad over give us very useful outcomes (ie fair use).

I've said it before, and I'll say it again:

1. Sony is a big company. You cannot equate Sony Computer Entertainment (the video game division) to Sony Consumer Electronics or Sony Pro. I personally dislike Sony Car Audio and Sony Music, but still like the games and home/pro equipment divisions.

2. Many of Sony's formats are technically superior to the ones that become popular. For example, Betamax has better resolution than VHS, and so that's why Beta and its offspring continue to be popular for broadcast video. MiniDisc is similar; it's a convenient, high-quality format that radio stations picked up.

And yes, Sony licenses its technologies...Sharp and JVC make MiniDisc recorders, and several manufacturers (like Pioneer) will sell Blu-ray Disc (which is technically superior to HD-DVD) equipment.
