Apple III - How much is it worth?
I'm in the process of getting two Apple IIIs.
I was wondering how much actually are they worth Working or Not Working?
They will come with external drives possibly...
If anyone is interested in getting one PM me with an offer and I'll see what I'm willing to part with when they arrive.
I might be getting manuals and programs possibly... still have to wait on the cost of shipping these two beasts to my house...
I thought they were notoriously unreliable. Where did you find one?
Well I can't tell you yet till I get them...
But I hear that one is working - I be the other needs to be dropped to reseat the chips as I've heard. Then I should have two functional Aple IIIs!
You probably want to keep them both. You'll want one for parts.
Well I'm all for that but my wife would eventually kill me with all the computer stuff in the basement that's already there.
If I get one working or two that's fine - I'd rather the second goto another Apple Enthusiast that way more people can enjoy these rarer Apples...
So if anyone one has an offer for a working or dead one please shoot them over to me as I will deal with this when they arrive one a first come bases... Offers will be for purchase and shipping of course will be additional... but I'm just wondering how much are the external Disk IIIs (is this the correct moniker for them) are worth since they are a bit tougher to find from my poking around...
The only resale of the Disk III is to someone that ownes, or is planning on getting an Apple III, since they will not work on any other Apple. (Small market, I am afraid.) Best to keep the computer and external drive together for resale value.
Don't drop the computer to reset the chips. Remove the bottom cover (about 10 screws), and physically remove all the chips , one at a time to reseat them. But in most cases, with the Apple III, you will find it is a power supply problem. Mine worked great for about 10 minutes and then a capacitor in the power supply went POOF and let the Magic Smoke out.
Thanks for the advice.
I'll try that out..
However is there any solution to the PS Issue you mention?
Like an aftermarket replacement OR repair for this?
What did you do to your Apple III after that happened?
In mine, a 22uf electrolytic capacitor had dried out. It was a simple desolder and clean up. With the new capacitor, I was back in business.
