OS X problem on Wallstreet

Since I installed OS 10.2.8 on my Wallstreet, it ain't the same. It takes for ever to boot and then I have to try it a couple times.

For some reason after it actually finishes booting the screen will go blank until I push the dimmer + button and then it pops up.

Right now I'm very disappointed, but I'm sure I've either loaded it wrong or something else is the problem.

Any help would be appreciated. By the way, I did not reload my OS 9 on the system. All I have is 10.2. 8 installed.

My Wallstreet is a 8 gig/300mhz, which I suppose should handle OS x. right?

Thanks

When I had 10.2.8 on my 233mh

When I had 10.2.8 on my 233mhz wallstreet, I had the same issue with the backlight cutting off after it finishes booting. Over time, the same thing happened when waking from sleep. Unfortunantly, I never did figure it out before the hard drive died. I had Mac OS 9.2.2 on there as well.

I would try the usual: reset the PRAM (key sequence is on the back behind the port door), and then the NVRAM by Booting in to Open Firmware by pressing Command-Option-O-F after the chime. old World macs are more tempermental about this. I don't remember the commands, but it is not "reset NVRAM reset all" like on new world macs, it's something else.

sorry if I did not help much.

sifting

If you can't remember a firmware command, try typing in "sifting" followed by something you know is in the command (i.e. sifting reset) it should show you a list of words that have that as a component. I think it's "reset-nvram" and "reset-all"... yep, just double checked.

i had 10.1 on my wallstreet y

i had 10.1 on my wallstreet years ago, and it was a pain in the ass. i wouldn't reccomend it unless you had a lot of ram and an upgrade processor. mine had the backlight problems too, especially with waking from sleep. honestly, i would go back to os 9 if i were you. i've since switched mine back, and it can do plenty with all the apps available. pure-mac.com has plenty of useful apps for os 9.
