Commbat on Apple II?

From the October 1982 issue of Compute! magazine:

http://www.atarimagazines.com/compute/issue29/370_1_The_Computer_Games_Of_Tomorrow.php

Quote:
Scott Adams's Adventure International sells a telecomputing game called Commbat. Commbat is a bit different than Megawars or Decwars; it allows only two players, but bypasses the need for a central computer. Instead, the players compete against each other using their own computers, linked over the phone lines by modems. Also, the game has graphics. The graphics are very simple, though, since Commbat allows Apple, Atari, and TRS-80 users to compete interchangeably, and those computers' graphics systems are normally incompatible.

I've done some pretty extensive Googling and am unable to find any record of this game having been released for the Apple II. Can anyone confirm?

I know post is years old BUT... I have a copy of COMMBAT for the Apple 2 sitting right here in front of me. I can post pic if you want!

I came upon this after I found this in an old box at the house and was searching for values. Wink

Do those screenshots I made depict the correct game?

ADDED:
I ripped it and was going to post it on asimov. But it's already there.

I searched the Asimov Index File and it's not under Scott Adams Adventures...

So do you have a link?

Re: Commbat on Apple II?

No, it isn't. And that's a problem with small-time obscure single load games. They can be grouped with other games, related or unrelated.

ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.com/pub/apple_II/images/games/file_based/Gemini-Collect-ModemCommbat.dsk

I believe the best way of searching asimov is to just do (ctrl-f) in the browser while viewing this text file - ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.com/pub/apple_II/site_index.txt

Finding Modem Commbat was easy. One time I was looking for PFS: Personal Filing System. And I found it in a PD collection of games and other utilities. It wasn't in the main text file listed above. But it was listed in this "sub-index" of White Disks - ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.com/pub/apple_II/images/games/collections/White_Disks/white.index

..and located on disk 27a - ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.com/pub/apple_II/images/games/collections/White_Disks/white_27a.dsk.gz

Helluva place to find it considering other stuff from the PFS series is here - ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.com/pub/apple_II/images/productivity/integrated/pfs/
and here - ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.com/pub/apple_II/images/productivity/word_processing/
Not to mention the Apple /// section - ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.com/pub/apple_II/images/apple3/productivity/
And none of it game or PD related.

It is also good to try a shortened version of the original name. Such as "mbat" for "ModemCommbat" or just plain old "mode".

Considering the sheer number of small programs, file versions, full disk versions and all the grey areas involved in determining what category a program should go into; the site does a decent job overall.
