Hi All,
If and LCD screen is really dull does it need a new backlight?
If so, how much does a backlight cost, where can one get one and how easy is it to replace?
I look forward to your responses,
Cheers

Do you mean that you can barely make out the image but its really dark like the backlight went out?
If so, that is usually the invertor (simliar to the ballast on a flourcent bulb) and thats what you need to replace.
Its easy for me to replace but then again, I repair laptops. The big thing is that you need to open up the screen lid assy to replace it.
Where can one buy these invertors?
Are they generic, i,e will one work in almost all lcd screens?
How much?
Thanks
T
No, they aren't generic. I susually get most of my parts off of ebay. I will first research the laptop to make sure that only one lcd was used (some laptops actaully used multiple screens, like differnet sizes and/or types (active vs passive)). Once I know what kind of screen I have, i will search on ebay for that laptop model and the word inverter.
Its actually a pc flatpanel lcd monitor for a standard desktop machine.
The screen turns on fine..but after a few seconds the light goes out and one can only see a faint image.
Its a FUJITSU SIEMENS CTM 5010 15" TFT-LCD MONITOR
You you should replace the bulb. They lose about half their brightness after roughly 2000 hours of on time.
