eMac- no sound, no ethernet

I purchased a used emac 1.25ghz from a public school system last week. It works perfectly, except that it has no sound in or out and no ethernet. The modem works perfect. The ethernet control panel shows that no cable is plugged in at all times. The sound control panel recognizes when I plug headphones or external mic into the system, but still no sound in or out.

I have reset PRAM and re-installed Tiger. No progress so far. Before I turn it over to Apple, does anyone have any ideas?

Is it still under warranty?

If so, this is covered by it. Provided that it isn't a lightning strike, and since you bought it second hand, you have no way of knowing whether it was or not. For all you know, it could be a flaky logic board - I've seen those symptoms come out of the blue on brand new out of the box units.

I have checked with Apple. It

I have checked with Apple. It is out of warranty. No idea about lightning. Several of the boxes in the sound control panel are "greyed out", which leads me to believe that this may be something other than a hardware issue.

I had

an iMac crt that did a similar thing, the firewire and ethernet were on the same daughter card, only on the 400mhz models. Prior models didn't have firewire, later models had it on the logic board, finding that card was so aweful I sold the box for $10 to a friend, a year later he gave it away for free.

Given that you reinstalled Tiger, that rules out software.

I've got an iMac DV 400 and the FW is on the mobo. The modem is a removable card, though. Was yours one of the trayloaders that was upgraded?
