Troubleshooting Microsoft 16k Ram card

Hi

Testing a Microsoft 16k card in a known working Apple II Plus.  When I plug it in and attach the ribbon cable the machine will not start - no beep to action.   Thoughts on trouble shooting this?

If it was a ram problem I'd think it would still start.  There is one cap on the board would that prevent the computer from starting if it were bad?

TIA

Michael

Need some Guidance with ROM Card

Hi Folks:

Quick Disk II 13/16 Sector Question

I recently came across the 13 sector ROMs for a Disk II Controller Card and thought I'd give them a try.  But before I do, I wanted to know if a 13 and 16 sector card can peacefully coexist on the same computer?  Or would I need to designate a separate machine? (not my preferred solution since there's not as much out there in the way of 13 sector software)

Obviously, the 13 sector ROMs would be on different a card than the 16 sectors and in different slots.  So I think it should work?  But I want to be sure before I risk frying something.

How I Fixed My Super Serial Card

TL;DR version:

  • My Super Serial Card wasn't accepting any keyboard commands, either via Control+A or Control+I.
  • Attempts to transfer anything over to it just resulted in garbage, if anything, on the screen.
  • The problem turned out to (probably) be worn out DIP switches that no longer closed the circuit when set to "On".

IIgs with flickering checkerboard boot issue...

Hi all,

I have a firends ROM3 IIgs here which refrains from booting properly. It goes straigt into a flickering checkerboard like so: https://youtu.be/bRoEhC-HIzo

Booting into self-test gives a more colored checkerboard with some random movements: https://youtu.be/Xb7L7TnC-GA

Initially I thought that might be a ROM issue, but after swapping the ROMs for known good ones as well as the CPU, it's clear that there's more to it.Do you, the nice people of Applefritter, have an idea what/where to look for? No chip is getting hot or even remarkible warm.

Creating 5.25 Floppy Disks from Mass Storage IIGS

This is following up on my previous post where I finally found out what was going wrong with my drives.  I'm so new to this but I have no one to ask so I'm hoping someone out there can help me.  I have  a new GS, both size floppy drives, and everything is functioning.  I have GS/OS floppy and a mass storage device.  I have figured out how to make 3.5 floppies this way from a .PO image.  My question is--can you do that as well with 5.25 floppies?  No disk shows up on GS/OS when I put a disk in--there doesn't seem to be a way to view, read, or write from it.  Is this by design or am I doing s

Apple IIGS 5.25 Boot Issue--Newbie

Hi--this is my first post and I'm a new IIGS owner.  It's not been easy so far, there's been an LCD (that does RGB) that didn't work, an incomplete mass storage device, a frustratingly non-functional CRT monitor (I'm temporarily still using composite on TV)...etc.   However, I've got one issue that I can't seem to find a solution for.  I was able to get GS/OS disks from a nice guy on a Facebook group, and if I just have the 3.25 drive hooked up it works fine.  IF I have the 5.25 hooked up (daisy-chained), the system starts to boot GS/OS from the 3.5 and displays the welcome screen but halfw
