Text not appearing correctly Apple IIe

Hello all,
I picked up an Apple IIe off ebay and it looks like something is wrong. When I switch the Apple IIe boot up text is displayed as: Apple UY

All other text is wrong. Basic prompt, games like Ultima IV. I removed all expansion cards just in case and same problem.

Any ideas whats wrong?? I rung a system test and things look fine except I get no "SYSTEM OK" I get "IEPLEL MI"

Is there s chip that controls text output or a jumper?

I wonder if Steve Jobs labeled my Apple II motherboard...?

It's Saturday night, I'm home with a cold, the kids are asleep, and I'm surfing the net...when I come across a link to an article about Jerry Manock, the industrial designer hired by Steve Jobs back in early 1977 to design the case of the Apple II:

Old photo of Jobs and Woz at the Apple II

I really like this photo of the two of them during "happier days" early on in the life of Apple. I'd like to print out a copy to display along with my very early Apple II motherboard.
Does anyone have a copy of this that is higher resolution than 1024x796? Or know what the original source of the photo is?

Thanks!
Howie

Apple II Hi-Res pictures

I put together a little collection of Apple II Hi-Res pictures. These are the standard 192x280x6 HGR/HGR2 screens. This one features a little more than 200 pictures, and is in a .po format. It works well in AppleWin emulator. But you can extract them put them on your physical Apple system of course.

I originally posted them on Atariage, but thought a more appropriate site would be here.
So.. Have at it!

.sdk to .dsk OSX lion or under OS9.0.3

Hello all,
Sorry if this questions has been asked here a million times.

I use ADTPro to pass all my .dsk images to floppies so I can then fire them up on my Apple IIe but need to find a way to do the same with .sdk files.

I've managed to get nulib2 compiled and I can extract the .sdk files but I can't finger out how to get these then converted to .dsk.

I have no Windows machine so I can't use Ciderpress. I'm running OSX 10.7.3 and I have Sheepshaver running OS9.0.3 in case there is an old app for this.

Thanks,
Rob

Sider drive tear-down

Anyone interested in pics of a Sider drive teardown? I am going to be cleaning and inspecting a Sider 10megger that came from a mill. There is an incredible amount of dust all over it. But, it seems the dust and sawdust has formed a nice protective barrier. Because upon cleaning everything looks to be absolutely pristine! Everything's gonna get a nice bath and scrubbing. I'm also going to replace the breather filters (if needed) and stuff like that.
