IC Logos

In case you need help identifiying the manufacturer of some older ICs, here's a list of some of the common logos that might be found printed on them. Feel free to add more and/or newer ones for a comprehensive reference.

Trouble with the GGLabs RAMGS/8 in ROM3 machine.

So I just got a new haul of IIgs loot, and put my ROM3 board in a case.

I pulled the 8Mb RAMGS out of my ROM1 box and installed it in the ROM3.  System became very unstable.  Once had a "bad input queue" error (I don't remember the numerical code off the top of my head, but that's what google said it was), but the rest of the time it was screen garbage and lockups like you expect from bad memory.

X-Server for GS/OS?

Was there ever an X-Server for GS/OS?  I don't mean for some kind of local unixy thing like we'd do with cygwin these days, just something for opening old-school remote X sessions from unix boxen over a tcp network.  My web searches are full of Mac stuff, heh.

14 Mb IIgs?

I see that some of the IIgs emulators have a 14Mb option, and one of the ROM switcher cards has an option for a ROM that supports 14Mb of RAM.

However, my understanding is that, due to the way the address decoding circuitry is designed, the unmodified GS hardware can really only address 8Mb.

Has anyone done any hardware hacks that allow proper decoding of the full address space and 14 Mb of actual physical RAM, with the patched ROM?  I would assume that it would have to be some kind of CPU socket plugin thing.....

Stupid thing I did sortof. I ordered a Ram expansion not a card.

Not that I'm sure I did a bad thing. I saw a auction show up for a 256 ram extension. I'm thinking is it a ram card or more memory modules. A quick check shows kits selling for $49.00. So I guess I got a good deal. But not a memory card. Though I have hopes. I have seen a few apple II memory cards wihtout a full set of chips on it. I'm hopping if anything they are the same in my apple ii plus. Once again I'm a victim of htting the button to fast.

Clone keyboard EPROM -data intact?

As explained in another thread (partly working keyboard) I've tried replacing all the ICs and electrolytic capacitors of a clone keyboard to no avail. The only semiconductor left to try is the EPROM which I have no idea what does or what it contains. NOTE: the keyboard encoder is the replacement. The original one is marked:

KR3600-017

SMC  8301C

KR3600-PRO

The replacement (AY-5-3600-PRO) should be a fully compatible replacement.

Apple IIGS Ejects 3.5 Disks On Startup Why???

Hi I just recently went to use my IIGS after not using it for about a year and for whatever reason when I try to boot a 3.5 disk on startup using a 3.5 800k drive A9m0106 it lights up for a second and then kicks out the disk a second later. I have tried this with 2 seperate 800k drives not connected to eachother (The ones with the daisy chain connector on back by the way) and it always just kicks the disk out right on startup.. Why so? I dont remember even having this problem before.
