Apple II

Am I right in thinking that the only differences between the Disk II drive (A2M0003) and the platinum 5.25 disk drive (A9M0107) is the connector (20Pin IDC on Disk II instead of 19 Pin 'D' on the 5.25 disk drive) and that the Disk II uses a -12V supply which is not supplied by the IIe card?.

If so I would guess that Disk II would work if I changed the connector to a 19 Pin 'D' and used a DC-DC converter to provide a -12V supply?

Any thoughts?

I want to catalogue a collection of about 3,000 short films. Since the films are part of an outdated media archive, I figured it would be appropriate to use a IIe database. Will the database in appleworks hold this many entries? Or will it cut off after a few hundred? If I have to use a new XP/macos program for a database, any suggestions?

Recently I took apart my //e's "DuoDisk" drive (or something like that, it has two drives in one enclosure) to unjam drive #1 (drive #2 was already shot) after unjamming it (actually the drive belt had come off) and putting it back together, I hooked it up to my //e and powered on. at first it was working okay, but suddenly it crashed, displaying random characters and beeping. (I swear im not making this up) after a few seconds, the drive started to smoke!!! I unplugged the //e and the drive.

I recently bought a IIe LC card for just a few dollars, yet to use it though. Surprised to read that it should work on a Performa 6200, it being PPC and all - I guess the PDS slots must happen to be the same. Good deal, as my first Mac, a 6200, is still waiting for me in storage.
