Boot Sequence

Hi All,

 

Was wondering about how the //e handles booting. I currently have two controller cards, a 19-pin that I use with either my DuoDisk or Floppy Emu, and I just picked up an older Disk ][ controller card, the one with the 20-pin connectors. If I keep the 19-pin controller in slot 6, and put the 20-pin on in slot 5, will the //e ever boot from the slot 5 disks if there's nothing in the slot 6 drives? I know I can probably do a PR#5 command to get it to boot from slot 5, but was curious if the system will look beyond whatever is in slot 6 if both drives are empty.

Apple II Bank Switching

I am trying to implement bank switching in my drop-in 6502 emulator, the MCL65+, to allow both the RAM and ROM to be implemented in the microcontroller's emulated 6502's rather than use the memories on the Apple II+ motherboard... and I seem to be missing something... The MCL65+ is a C emulation of the 6502 running on a microcontroller on a board which can replace the physical 6502 on the motherboard.  I have implemented the three memory blocks: ROM, Bank1(12K), and Bank2(4K) and I snoop 6502 read accesses to the 0xC080-0xC08B addresses to switch between them.

keyboard data and strobe workings

I have a code that is supposed to work on a II plus or a IIe, and I want to use the soft switch at $C00E to make sure the alternate character set is off (required for flashing text).

It seems this should be OK, but then I noticed in the Apple IIe reference manual it says "in the original Apple II, memory locations from $C000 to $C01F were used only for the keyboard data and strobe functions."  This way this is phrased got me worried.

"Essential" documentation recommendations

What do you consider "essential" documentation to pick up?  I'm thinking stuff like User Guide for whatever system (IIe Platinum, in my case), but what other guides, books, etc are out there that you'd recommend for someone starting from zero?

IIe Platinum video sync a little finicky

Hello, all. 

 

I'm new to the Apple II retro scene (had a II+ in the 80s).  I just got a IIe Platinum at VCF MW this weekend and have started the process of building up the system.  I'm currently using a little 12" LCD with composite for the monitor, but the video sync is not great.  I usually have to start the IIe, then turn the TV on and off a couple times to get it to "catch" the video and show up properly.  The system works fine otherwise; it's just a little inconvenient to fiddle with it on a reboot.

Southeastern Software Newsletter?

Anyone happen to remember the Southeastern Software (or SES) Newsletter?   It would have been active from the late 1970s thru possibly the early 80s.

I've seen reference to articles from it in couple places, but have been unable to locate any online copies.

Where to tind lists of new apple ii games introduced

I am trying to find a site or list that tracks all new apple ii games that have been released. Maybe going back 10years or so. Descriptions and screenshots would be nice. I feel i have very little info on new games released for the system and id like to delve into whats out there.

Couple of questions

Hi All,

 

Just manged to find a good condition //e with almost everything I'd need....with one exception. A couple of questions:

 

1. The exception is no joystick. I don't recall the Apple joystick as being all that great...but I also don't recall being able to use a non-Apple joystick either. I saw what appears to be a USB converter on RetroConnector/Tindie but they are out of stock, and I don't really feel like paying $100 on eBay for something that even if it does work, won't last long. Any ideas on how to get a joystick that will work on the //e?

Apple II with video and (probably) RAM issues

I’d like to ask you for help with my Apple ][ board: As you can see [here](https://imgur.com/a/ocoGj2W) (the upper one is without the ROMs, the lower with them), the board has some issues with the video output and start up process.
