Apple II

Could you make a new Apple IIe compatible from modern components?

This has probably been discussed ad-nauseum, but would it be possible to create a new Apple IIe using truly modern and currently available components?  Rather than a true replica, something that is compatible.

By this, I mean:

WDC 65C02

FPGA or CPLD for IOU and MMU

SRAM rather than DRAM

Flash NOR rather than EPROM / ROM

VGA output using a system similar to the Apple-II-VGA card

Compact flash or SD Card for storage

Potential to overclock to 8, 12 or 16MHz

If such a system was built, would it be compatible with existing software?

SoftSP card and daisy-chaining

Hello,

I'm progressing in testing my new daisy-chainable device on various configurations. I face issues with a DIY SoftSP card (in conjunction with a 655-0101 IO Controller).

The first one is that I had to add a patch to make sure the packet start byte 0xC3 is where we expect it. There is an extra sync byte from the SoftSP, which is not there on IIc (ROM3 and ROM4x) nor on IIgs (ROM01).

Once that patch was in, the SoftSP works in some ways:

Help Neeeded Troubleshooting A2DVI

Hello Friends:

I need some help troubleshooting an A2DVI.  I am building an A2DVI v2.0 card.  The card is not working.  After several efforts to validate solder points, etc, I determined the problem seems to be the Pi Pico.  When I drag and drop the firmware (2040 varriant) on to the Pi Pico (mounted as a storage device) it flashes S-O-S on the LED.  No matter what I do the firmware will not load.

1) I know I am using the correct version and not the version for the Pico2.

2) I have tried using flash_nike.uf2 to clear the pico.

Disk ][ does not boot

Hello all,

I have a Disk ][ drive that I can read/write  to (for example, using Locksmith to adjust the speed) when used as drive 2. But I cannot boot off of it; the disk just spins and the light remains on when I use it as drive 1.

Basic troubleshooting: the controller is fine, as I can swap the drives and drive 2 will boot. The cable *should* be ok as I can read and write to the drive when adjusting the speed. Drive was working (booting) when I last powered it up some years ago...

Is this a common issue? if so, what are the possible causes?

Looking for a couple "real" Language Cards

I have a couple of original II's (well one is a Taiwan clone of a II) that do not have Language cards in them.

I have tried a couple of the Saturn clone cards in them, but they do not work right... They may sometimes pass diagnostics, other times they don't. Neither works with Skyfox.

Does anyone have a couple of old spare Language cards they want to get rid of? They don't even need to be working- I can fix them.eBay auctions at nearly $100 "untested" with obviously missing chips seems a little steep.

Apple II disk card as a Smartport

I have an apple iie with a disk II card. I found some software for a A2PICO card, I normally use this card for z80 card emulation and it works very well.

I installed the software, but can't seem to get the Disk II card to work as an Smartcard.

Anyone managed this? If so how!

Circuit Diagram for an Apple iic (revision with 4xram ic's and a expansion header)

Hello,

I recently got an apple iic computer. It worked fine for about a week, then degarded with all sorts of random issues until it eventually stopped working. Just a screen full of random characters.

I figured it may be a RAM Issue so started to look for the circuit to help debug the issue. I can find iic cirtuits with the 16 chip ram setup but not one for the 4 chip ram setup.

Does anyone have it? or know where I can download it?

Another Apple II rev.0 replica and an old clone

Hello,

Some time ago, I received a Polish Apple II clone PCB (it was called Lidia) for repair – it's the gray PCB without soldermask. It was manufactured in Poland in 1984. I decided to build myself a modern Apple II rev. 0 clone using available Gerber files. One is mounted in the original Apple II Plus case, the other in a 3D-printed case. The power supplies are modified Dell ATX boards. It also includes a language card, an 80-column card, and a Disk II card. Keyboard's are a Datanetics replica with blank MX keycaps. The letters are laser-engraved.
