Apple II

Any interest in a new Apple /// memory board?

I have PCBs and connectors arriving tomorrow for a prototype of a new Apple /// memory board, using modern components (e.g., CMOS SRAM). The initial version is a 256 KiB board, as proof of concept. Is this something anyone might want?

Compared to the Apple "5V" memory board, this uses much less power, so it doesn't need the power resistor from +12V to +5V that was present on the Apple board, and it puts less load on the power supply and generates less heat.

CA3146E Chip - Disk II

Well i seem to of  found the issue with writing to disks with my DISK II drive.  The Transistor in the CA3146E chip that drives the Q2 right/Write  Transistor is shot.  all the others on the chip test ok, but pin 8 is dead..

Seems like this is now a discontinued part.  I have 3 Ebay  ones coming from China, with an ETA of Oct/Nov.  Anyone have a better source?  Digikey/newark/etc all fail to find it..  I am not interested in paying as much shipping as the cost of a DISK II drive to get it here (Canada)..

Thanks

T3 Transformer Specifications in Astec Apple IIe Power Supply

I have had an Apple IIe for several years now that I power up and play around with from time to time, but not on a regular basis.  I went to power it on one day recently and found it be completely dead.  I decide to open it up and check for power coming out of the main harness from the power supply, but get nothing on either the 12v and 5v rails.

Disk ][ Front Panel

Just wondering...

Does anyone know what manufacturing method was used for printing/painting/cutting the embossed aluminium overlay on the disk ][ drives ?

Does any such service still exist? And is affordable.

I know Maceffects are doing new labels for apple ]['s themselves but the disk ][ seems to have a different finish.

Cheers

Dave

Apple IIe / IIc mouse

While learning more about me new enhanced IIe, my attebntion turned to mice and what works with the IIe. From what I can tell, it seems like I need a mouse card and of course a mouse. Are the IIe and IIc mice interchangeable. The things I read lead me to belive this is true, but I'm just looking for comformation or correction.

Thasnks all!

Trying to enable serial console on Windows Subsystem for Linux

I am trying to enable the serial console on Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), if that is possible. I've got Ubuntu running in Windows, and MODEM.MGR on my Apple //e. The screen and minicom commands work, as does ADTPro, so the PC and Apple are definitely talking to each other. (I am using a USB-to-DB25 cable connected to my //e's Super Serial Card.)

However, when I try to figure out how to create a serial console on the //e, the guides I've found don't help. On the Raspberry Pi, it is a very simple process. You just use this command:

Mainboard identification

Hi All

Apologies for the number of noob questions, but I have been looking for some time and struggling to ID my Apple IIe mainboard. I think it is a REV A based on the detail in the picture below, but I am aware some REV B boares were marked -A.

if anybody can definitively ID I would be very grateful, thanks.

Apple IIe Extended 80-Column Text Card for AUX - Has anybody remade this?

I'm trying to get hold of an Extended 80-Column Text Card for the AUX slot of my IIe, and was wondering if anybody had made a modern day recreation of it available as open source? It seems simple enough that somebody might have done.

I'm still searching, and can find the card on eBay, but there seem to be none in the UK, only the US, so I thought if there had been a recreation, maybe I could build my own.

Thanks in advance :)
