I am trying to get this iBook 10.1 install cd to work on my beige g3, but when I try to start with it, I get a broken system folder icon. In verbose it tells me that it is still waiting for root device. Any suggestions?

AFAIK the computer install CDs only work on the specific machine they were intended for ... but i wouldnt bother anyhow ... 10.1 is very slow and quite buggy ... 10.2/10.3 would be a much beter bet

IIRC, the 10.1 install CDs didn't work on anything but the model they were intended to go with, but the 10.2 CDs and DVDs work on anything that natively supports it. (How do I know? I have a 10.2 DVD that came with a 17" iMac that I've used on my 400MHz TiBook.)
Is there any way that I can make it work?
Rev A iMac, Rev D iMac, FireWire iBook... all with an iMac 10.1.3 installer. Must just be going from portable-desktop that doesn't work.
Oh and is everyone forgetting how illegal it is to do that?
