I remember back in the good ol' days of the classic mac os where norton had a utility that showed disk status in the top right corner of the screen by a blinking light. I was wondering if anybody knew of a utility like that for Mac OS X?

Good tip, thanks. I've installed it (I liked the older one in the past) and it's got many more useful features too. But, if you want, you can disable everything but the disk usage display. And you can set it for "Disk Arrows" and get a nice visual of in and out usage.
