multiple monitors on OS 9 and a PM 8600/500

Finally got a 3rd monitor that works and it is a dell flat panel - nothing to fancy for being free to a good home...

I connected it up to my PM 8600 and it is good. Currently connected to my IXMicro twin turbo 128. I have a second monitor connected to the card as well, an older 14" CRT and a twin connected to the standard mobo video port. So I have a cool set up with three monitors. Problem is that the two monitors coming off of the IXMicro are mirroring each other. Cant seem to get around this. I have installed the Apple drivers (Apple IX3D), but no love.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

I remember the IXmicro not being able to enlarge the desktop, no matter of what IXmicro version You got (there was an Apple and another one, some sort OEM being Apple compatible). I used that card in my 9600 but had to install other additional cards to achieve desktop enlargement. I was very happy with ATI´s Radeon 7000 at that time (these were able to enlarge, not just mirroring).

ah, good to know.

and since my only other two slots are taken by a Sonnet Tempo Trio and a Cardbus adapter, my only option here is to upgrade the video card...

thanks for the info.

As an aside, ixMicro did release a dual monitor card, me thinks. I've never actually seen one and I've only ever heard it mentioned.

If you do get another video card, avoid the original Radeon Mac Edition (no 7000 in the name) as I don't believe it supported dual monitors.

I heard of that special IXmicro card, too but never saw it in real. I am owning both versions and neither of them is dual-display-able. Some of the 3dfx-capable Villagetronic cards are dual-display-able (760 or 960 as I remember), even the well known 5500 DFX card. I always liked 3DFX graphics but ATI made the race with their Radeons. The 7000 is a nice one: You can use it in late 2005 G5 Macs. I once used four Studio Displays at my G5, three of them connected to three 7000 Radeons. Was fun to use Photoshop that way while watching TV and else.
