Yeah. Well now that the Apple I went for over 1/2 million, you will have everyone and their brother and sister coming out of the woodwork thinking that their Apple IIe is worth 10K or more. I guess it is going to be hard for a while buying the newer Apple II gear on eBay for a while now. The New York Times and CNN had coverage.

Wow! I have a few IIe mother boards and power supplies in the basement. A little metalwork, and I too can have a prototype Apple II. Is that all it takes? LOL! Smile

OK BEFORE YOU GUYS POST ABOUT ME.... (Call this a preemptive attack LOL)

I put up my Museum Apple-1 Mimeo on eBay.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/190847025362

Yes, I'm asking a lot, but as many of you here have followed this was over a year's worth of work collecting, obtaining and worst case recreating unobtainable parts. Not to mention a lot, thousands in cash I spent on them.

It also has a set of my custom bent plexi-glass cases for the board and for the custom datanetics Apple-1 keyboard.

Cheers,
Corey

The white 6502's are selling for close to $1000 alone. Considering yours is very date correct, I don't think it's that bad of a price at all.

Just getting the original TI sockets must have been a chore, let alone all date matching chips.

By the way, I like the custom case. Did you modify that datanetics keyboard? It looks extremely clean.

Hello Corey,
i agree - there are a lot of replications out there - but i believe in fact there is not a single one that has been built with that effort for details and that close to the original Apple-1....
i wish you the best for that offer.... just reminding that a far less quality replication ( without a single hour work spent - just only the cheapest solution for getting working parts without respect to datecodes and other details - just the mainboard working, would start at least with 1100 $ - and with no datanetics keyboard - the price demanded is rather more than fair.... just even taking respect to the datanetics and the white 6502 would also raise the price ( still without working time ) for another 2000 $ .....
i do wish you get at least 10.000 bucks at least and that would still be a bargain....

$500 for shipping? are you one glue?

That's only for international, which is expensive since I will require much more packaging and insurance (Yes I will insure an $8000+ dollar shipment). I'm covering domestic (aka Free). But to give you an idea, when I ship an Apple-1 plexiglass case like the one that this one uses, it costs me almost $100 domestically to ship alone with all the specialized packaging needed to prevent damage to the item. (FYI: My last plexiglass case I sold went for more than $600 shipped, it was not for an apple but was similar to this case) When you add to the package the monitor, keyboard, and insurance to cover all that, I actually expect it to exceed $500 internationally. If you want to bid on the Mimeo and you win, I will refund you the difference in shipping from the actual if you want.

Cheers,
Corey

Well.. It's equipped with the Sup 'R' Mod II, that in an of itself has gotta be worth something! Yeh?

And look at these software items:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/VGA-GRADED-NM-85-Dawn-Patrol-APPLE-2-II-New-Computer-Video-Game-System-Disk-/290870522134?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item43b93bf116

If they sell (I do not expect they will), I might as well put mine up and rack in a fortune. I picked up a set of 10 of the dawn patrols for $1.00 each. The software haul included one each of all the SSI and Avalon Hill series.

$500.00 for a piece of literature? I wonder what the complete run of the in-depth catalogs would go for. Gotta be in the thousands!

So there is a place that grades video games? I did not know that. I had some currency graded a few years ago, but didn't realize there was actually a place that grades video games.

I guess it must be more expensive to buy a graded one. LOL! I have a whole pile of old video games at home that are going to need to be graded now. What about counterfeits?

How does one train to become a video game grader?

I have seen everything now.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

When grading came into the sports card market (baseball cards, etc.), it caused the prices of everything to really jump up. For an example, look on ebay completed auctions of the price for two of the same sports card, one of a PSA graded "Gem Mint 10" card vs. one that some total stranger says, "it looks perfect to me". I reeeeeally hope grading does not catch on in video game and classic computer collecting!!

oh yeah.... when i read that i was sad that middle-ages have passed and
dumping in bitumen and afterwards dumping in feathers have passed away as punishment for stupidness....
the face of that guy should have been posted on a bounty-note here.....

because he surely has at least earned the sympathy of the entire Apple-community
and he surely would have been worth some "Gates-cakes" and "Gates-videos"....

my own opinion ? God must have made mistake/forgotten, that he did not ( at creation of the world ) add
some realy "skunky" penetrant smell to the attitude of stupidness....
.... or did he really want to protect the rest of the world from being injured with damaged smell because he "granted" so much of this attitude ?

Well if you mean the Apple-1s that were mounted on picture frames... FYI, one of those was the Apple-1 that went $340k and the other was the one that went for 640k. The 3rd has not been sold recently. The recent sale for 670K was not from that set. The most interesting part is all three working units that recently sold for the record amounts were NTI boards, the more common (if that could be said) Apple-1. We have yet to see a working ByteShop board come up for sale. I expect one of those to break 1M at this rate.

Cheers,
Corey

I sincerely believe that we'll get there. It will take a number of years and loss of systems through attrition, recycling-scrapping, fire/flood damage, experimenter damage, all those kinds of things.

Eventually there will be only a handful of these (or any Apple II series) machines remaining, and it is then that the hardware will command hundreds of thousands of dollars.

In the meantime, the price is whatever some flunky ponies up on ebay.

While we're at it. I've got a NIB MIB LOW S/N Micromodem II (with MicroCoupler box). Signed by all the employees at D.C. Hayes. Comes with original wiring, disk (with MicroModem graphic on the envelope. The box is near MIB, with practically no wear or creases. The styrofoam inside is nice and firm too. This modem, while very lightly used, has a real pioneering history behind it. It connected and communicated with JPL computers during the Voyager II era of space exploration. And prior to that, it was the main comm link in a world famous warez board. To further the history of this remarkable bit of equipment, have it be known it acted as a war dialer and no doubt hooked up with some really sophisticated mainframes in its time. Bonus material: a library of 3rd party telecom software and terminal programs beginning with AE! Asking $6,999.95 + $799 for in-person delivery to the continental US. Firm. I bring it right to you, along with the hardware to demonstrate correct functioning. Overseas delivery? ..email for quote.

What do you think?

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Well this post is not about Apple II's but it is about a monitor on ebay I want for my Apple II.
It's an old Sanyo 9" monitor that was listed just a few weeks back, I completely forgot to bid on it. So I waited for him to re-list it; when he did re-list it he freaking raised the price that it didn't sell for by 6 times! It went from $15 to $90 for no reason. So just as I figured it didn't sell for $90. So he just re-listed it today for guess what, $95. He raised the price again. I guess he just lost a freakin customer, there's no way I'm not going to pay anywhere near that for an old security monitor. It's annoying too because I like the way it looks. It would look great on top of my computer.

Here's the auctions in order, has anyone seen anything this stupid? I mean when my items don't sell I usually lower the price, or leave it at the same price it was at. I don't freaking raise it lol.

1st failed listing

2nd failed listing

Laughable!

I don't know, maybe I should stop bitching and email him, maybe he will lower the price back down or something.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Hello Transwarp II guy,
viewing the listing there is on thing to notice:
1st listing - he hadn´t tested the unit and offered it "as is" at own risk untested...
and only 2 pictures with shut off monitor...

- then after it hasn´t sold it seems he wanted to find out if the unit works...

- then last listing he displays 4 pictures of which 2 show the unit in operational mode
and working - not only that - but working with color display....
so then of course he assumed to hit the goldmine and immediatly raised the minimum bidding price....

that´s what you can call "bad luck"... you should have snatched it away, before he started to examine
the function.... that would have saved you a lot of bucks....
i don´t believe that he will now drop that price anymore - unless it has been listed at least ten times with no bid....
- and if your unlucky the unit might even go away without chance of negotiations...

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Hello Jay,

well maybe you just didn´t think about such useless things like shipping costs and other useless disadvantages....
in the US this price of course would be laughable..... but in Australia ? Of course you have never ordered some spareparts for repair worth 5 bucks and then paid 50 bucks for the shipment....
that´s a fact that Apple users face in Australia each time, they try to get a machine back to running condition...
you just take a jump around the corner or get the shipment of items from ebay for free within the US...

just sit down with a calculator and try to figure out: HOW MUCH WOULD YOU HAVE SPENT IF EVERY ODER YOU HAVE PERFORMED
would have cost you 50 to 100 bucks ???

before complaining probably it might be worth to waste some time on thinking about that....
I live in Germany and don´t have that much problems on getting my stuff... allthough i also have to import sometimes stuff from U.S.A. due to the fact that it´s not availiable within Europe...
but that causes in regular cases just horrible delays.... such shipment to my place requires 4 weeks in normal case.... ( mostly caused by delay at customes... )
- but i had several times communication with users down in "buckaroo county" in down under.....
so i have learned about the trouble, those guys down there have to fight with....
i´d rather more guess that guy not to have smoked anything at all.... maybe he had 2 or 3 cans of beer ...
- but that surely won´t be enough to get really drunk...
just my five cents...

Hello MarkO,

i live very close to Munich.... have you seen the size of our beerglasses at the Octoberfest ???
the cans won´t beat the glasses.... not to talk about the content....
if you cut off the head of the australian beer with a knife and place it besides on a beermat...
- it remains there for 5 hours or more....

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Hi all

I'm probably classed as one of those sucker buyers on eBay, but I do agree with the Australian factor. I usually have to pay double the price due to postage costs from the US.

Must admit I try and resist powered devices because of the voltage differences between there and here, though sometimes can't be avoided with the older stuff.

The market here was never that huge of apple II gear in comparison to the US, so I for one am willing to pay more then yourselves for some pieces. Though the ZIP Chip that's listed at 999$ is to extreme for me. It was for 2 weeks at 299$ but I resisted at that also.

But would I pay 300$ for a boxed mint condition IIc? Yes, and I have, because over here I'm looking at 500$ plus postage. I end up gettngi it cheaper even with the postage added from the US, and as the IIc uses a power brick, I can just replace that and alls good. Here, mint isn't that readily available.

Well it sold for $190! I'll just stick with my $10 color monitor for now. The 9" monitor looks good on top of my Apple II but they really are not worth $190 to me at all. I guess I shouldn't have sold mine for $30. I liked their BNC coaxial connectors because it gave me an excuse to buy yet another RCA adapter lol.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

I think this exemplifies the current trend where self-proclaimed "pickers" thinks they hit pay-dirt whenever they got an antique computer from somebody's abandoned storage unit or leftovers from estate sales.

Welcome to another "FrankenApple II" Auction.

Have doubts? Look at the date on the motherboard and the altered power switch.

12Jul13 Update

Seller received my email and has now dropped the starting price down to $400.00
Chris (the seller) wanted to hire me as a consultant on Apple II's, but I declined and suggested that he try finding information here at 'Fritter and several other sites.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

I asked what was unique and special about this //c. What about it that could command such a high price. The seller also said a mistake in the listing was made. And that it comes from an estate IIRC.

Sometimes mistakes are made, sometimes buyers hide behind the facade of "mistake". Sometimes they are uneducated in the 2-series marketplace. Sometimes they have $$$ in their eyes.

Adjusting the ebay prices 4 U. Looks like I got a little more work to do on this franken-II with the drilled in power switch.

ADDED: I see others here are in communication with the seller too!

For BIN $600 + free shipping the price is not too bad. Wish I had some money, I would probably buy it. Notice in slot 0 there's a set of integer ROM's already there for the picking. Besides the motherboard and the power supply mod (which is kinda cool) It all seems original.

All you would need is a rev 4 style motherboard (I think you won one Steven) from a II/II+ to make it look original. Then you could transfer the ROM's from the ROM card to the motherboard. Pretty simple and you would save easily $400+ considering the average $1300 sales of Apple II machines.

Somebody should snatch this one up asap.

Also, I don't think the box and Styrofoam are original to the computer. They came with blue foam inserts not Styrofoam.

This has 2 SSC, 1 Language card, 1 Disk ][ interface, and 1 80-column card.

While not laughable for people that want to buy a II+.. The price at which these II+ systems are moving is indeed going up.

Transwarp,

He dropped the price after I (and apparently several others) contacted him about what he had.

I see it's first bid is at $250. Is that reasonable? I have no idea on the IIs.
