Deleting Old Private Messages

Is there any way to delete old private messages. If there is, I haven't found it. I have a bunch I need to delete. Thanks.

Re: Deleting Old Private Messages

Hello k4lmp,
as far as i know, there is no way for us users to do that: If you want them to be deleted - the best and shortest
path may be a private message to Tom Owad or to the member eeun.

Up to my knowledge only administrators have the power to login with the rights to delete entries.....

At the other hand... if is releated to the "prism-maniac" related to the current infos in the newspapers about
the activities of an unnamed agency .... well all past mails are on disk and archived ....
if you want to get "off the screen" in the real world there is only one posibility:
"evacuation" to a desert without any kind of telecommunication or creditcards, accounts, and jobs only paid in cash....
some parts of Maroco offer such areas in the Sahara... maybe also some areas in the Appalachi mountains
in areas where formerly moonshiners had a hideaway....
and you would be required to limit for the rest of your life the
communication to papernotes passed by hand to the reciever....
sorry for that - but Orwell has become reality several years ago....

I live in Germany and i must recognize that even our german government is not able to handle this or to
obey the decision of our constitutional court......
. that decision isn´t worth the paper it was printed on....
we probably even must assume that our government has used US-sources in cooperation with the German Intelligence
to break German laws and to get information they have not been permitted to collect by theirselves due to the decision
of the german constitutional court....

Are you wanting to delete sent messages, or messages that you have received?

I am starting to get several messages, and some I don't need anymore. I just thought I was overlooking how to delete them. If there isn't a way for me to do it, that is OK. Thanks for the info. And Speedy, I live in the Appalachian Mtns. Smile

My moderator powers don't extend to interacting with user private messages. Can't view 'em, can't delete 'em.
Dr. Webster is an admin, and along with Tom would be a better contact than me.

Hello eeun,

thank you very much for the explenation. I thought that the moderators would have been granted some more power from Tom Owad to carry out some tasks related to the service of the board..... maybe it might be a good idea to publish an kind of page listing the admins and their determined list of proposed tasks. That might avoid such errors as they happened to me here and i might have not forgotten to list Dr.Webster or given a reply which of the admins carries out such requests.

@ k4lmp, nice piece of nature out there - at least in the areas not affected, damaged or poisened by fracking....

There's a page here, but I haven't seen some of those names here in a long time.

Basically, moderators can keep the forum content tidy; admins can do everything else.

Hello eeun,

in such a case it might be a good idea to send each of them a pm demanding for reply -
like "proof of life sign"......
we should never forget, that several of us members reach age, where we might face our "big boss" up there...
and we all know that sometimes happens unexpected....
maybe inspecting the track of each of them helps ahead to find out at least last posting....
or examining the login database by Tom....

Looks like some of the PrivateMsg module's permissions were not set correctly. Everyone should be able to delete their own messages now.

Re: Deleting Old Private Messages

Hello k4lmp and hello Dr.Webster,

it seems the changes have been successful....
at least now we are able to mark an entire pm-topic and can use a "delete" button to delete the entire pm-topic - and within the pm-topic
now there is a bottomline below each message that offers to delete the single pm-message.

Thank you, Dr. Webster for granting us this feature.
It surely will help us to clean / sweep at least our pm-areas from out-dated conversations
and by that help to free up space on the server for the future....

Maybe ( i still hope this might get realized tooo ) in the wintertime there is a chance to also realize
the feature to "edit" pm´s sometime in future
....
