I confess as being one of the people who paid too much. I won't say how much and for what. But I'm going to SELL!!

Re: THIS is Laughable!

SO did I. Saw it, wanted it, could no find it elsewhere so I bought it. Other stuff I got a decent price (or bought from craigslist) and some the price was not great but I needed it to round out a system for sale and the price was worth the value added IMO.

Still, some of the asking prices are crazier than the bids being made!

I think its a bit much when someone asks for $700.00 for a basic IIe + DuoDisk + Green Screen Monitor.
No manuals, cards, or anything else.

Yup! Christmas Time's acomin'. Smile

... or $2900 for one with AppleColor 100 RGB monitor. I know that monitor isn't common, but $2900 is just ridiculous.

I wonder what's with datamost titles? I've seen them trade hands from $200 on up?

A recent example -- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Datamosts-Argos-for-the-Apple-II-/151153920721?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item233179cad1

Just found this Hayden title for $350. Outstanding!! What's making these go for such a high price? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Haydens-Microscopic-Journey-for-the-Apple-II/151155112957

One of my search terms, "Apple II", is returning a little over 1,700 items on ebay currently. This seems higher than last year. What has been the highest ever?

Re: THIS is Laughable!

I don't limit my searches to the Computers/Tablets & Networking or just Vintage Computing because I've found more than enough happy accidents listed in the wrong categories.

So I make general searches on: Apple II -ipod -ipad -iphone -sata (and then vary on IIe, IIc IIGS) and then sometimes look for 2e, 2c etc. to catch the dumb listers.

There is definitely more retro turning over. People are getting older and unloading their garages and closets. I see more listings saying 'from an estate sale' than ever before.

There is at least one *group* of classic game collectors with deep pockets acquiring old games right now. Check out the pilot podcast of Apple Time Warp (with John Romero), describing their activities on eBay.

Its a cool computer but 3K is a bit much. Just last year an immaculate IIgs upgrade sold for $1600 and it had an Transwarp GS installed in it among other things.

Who knows, maybe it will sell.

www.ebay.com/itm/171172790052 - $15 plus shipping - such a deal. Not.

www.ebay.com/itm/251378462737 - expensive case and keyboard there.

What am I missing here? This IIgs mobo DOESN'T have the the IIe keyboard inputs; so its not a IIgs upgrade mobo!

Someone needs to break the news to him!

Oh and check out this great deal from the same seller:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Apple-IIgs-Woz-Limited-Edition-Model-No-A2S6000-825-1267-A-/360772635534?pt=US_Vintage_Computers_Mainframes&hash=item53ffb98b8e

It's a crapped out IIgs Woz edition with a crack in the lid and he wants $200 for it!

Technically, you're right -- and technically, you're wrong.

The pads/pins are there for the IIe power supply, keyboard and numeric keypad. Anyone with basic soldering skills could add the appropriate connectors without too much effort and slap it into an upgrade pan. It's been done, frequently, especially back when Shreve Systems was selling an aftermarket IIe to IIGS upgrade pan.

The 'upgrade' board, which is pretty easy to get today, wasn't as common or cheap some 20 years ago. It was easier to get a ROM 01 board and modify it. Some people had a sizable investment in cards that for some reason or another wouldn't fit into a IIGS case. Also, Shreve had a huge inventory of IIGS motherboards, and thought they could talk schools into upgrading their IIe computers on the semi-cheap. I heard they were modestly successful at it.

Transwarp, Javster, and Sean,

Yes. I looked at both.
I sent an e-mail to the guy with the briefcase before.
His answer: "But...It has Historical Value."

I just thought that he was out in left field somewhere wandering around.

As for the two IIgs items:

Yup. I saw the same things you did and basically said the same things.
Which is why I didn't bid on either.

Just wait. It's not even "Black Friday" yet and all the neer-do-well Sellers have yet to arrive.

He reserves the right to stop the auction if he does not get $30,000.00 or more.

If he wanted 30k he should have sold it at Southeby's, not eBay.

If you remember, the lat one only went to $26k.

yep... list on favorites of block busting cash demands close on 23rd of December !
up till then there are a lot of chances to crack the limits of our list.....

more interesting is - that in the next weeks again a "framed" Apple-1 is upcomming here in Germany for auction....
that will crack any limits anyhow... that´s for sure !

so enjoy the jokes and have fun with all that persons taking part for casting in the big fleabay-show ....
performers every night welcome !

Bwahahaha! So every ROM 1 is a IIgs upgrade! I'm going to go sell all mine for $100+ each. (;

So does "shreve systems" still sell the bottom pans? I've always wanted to turn my IIe into a IIgs upgrade.

He added a few lines to his auction: "This is a must have for any art collector, apple enthusiast or museum." and "Not going into any detail about this computer because if you're interested you should know this piece with everything it includes is PRICELESS"

Well I know a thing or two about Apple II's considering I've sold several on ebay myself; and they are definitely NOT priceless. His words are irritating, I'm tempted to email him that this computer is worth maybe 4k TOPS... and that is really pushing it for a non rev 0 computer. I just don't want to start a pissing fight lol.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

well argueing with a member at fleabay is in the very most cases like trying to teach a cow spelling.....
you might be able to use up your time with more usefull tasks.....

and that folks up now - well it seems you have forgotten that they are all infected with "XMAS-fever"
or should i better call it "$$$ CASH fever $$$"..... and the only cure will be leting that days from
24th of December to 31st of December pass by.....

In January that get´s it´s cure by itself....

so just relax, lean back and watch the show...... it´s like Al Bundy in the market mall on vacation....
or the famous show, when he installed the satellite dish on the roof....
and in January they´ll drop down in the backyard... like Al....

the only valid rule at fleabay in the upcomming weeks is the rule from the armenian carpetdealer:

"every day a stupid guy get´s out of bed and hotel and is willing to pay totaly overpriced carpet...
you just have to wait and catch that stupid idiot to sell him the stuff!"

The real question is not about the stupid offer -

the real question is: "Did that guy catch his idiot?"

I´m besides more waiting for the limits, that will be cracked when that next Apple-1 sells in the auction
in a couple of weeks short before Christmas - does the next rocket get higher to orbit - or does it
remain in lower heights ? As far as known now - that Apple-1 isn´t in working condition and it´s framed
like art-painting.... so who´s gone to give money for that artifact ? and how much ?

Actually I sent him/her a message immediately after the listing was posted asking for some specific info and he/she posted it almost immediately. Serial, additional photos, etc. Very nice response he/she sent to me before posting the info in the listing.

While the initial post was kinda silly and the 30k is just a tad high (sarcasm) I still hope he gets it. This way when my rev 0 Apple II serial #3283 goes up next week perhaps I can ask for 40k? (yeah, uh huh, sure)

But hey, it never hurts to dream right?

Now have the integer roms back on the MB, applesoft roms on the card, programmers rom re-installed in machine, my first Disk ][ drive with serial #2133 plus all the original stuff I could find (apple communications card, parallel card and serial card with boxes and manuals except no comm. card box) and other stuff so hopefully it will make some collector/hobbiest/super ultra rich dude (still dreaming) happy and make me some much needed money.

Let's give the guy/girl a break and remember what I learned over 30 years ago as a wee one when I put my first bulleting board online (eventually an AE line so I did not have to deal with monitoring posts!) that people typing is not the same as people talking. Emotion, inflection, meaning is sometimes lost in printed words by normal people like us (I have rarely been called normal but I can dream about that too!) since we are not literary geniuses. The average person like myself struggles to find the right words often enough let alone trying to type them.

Then again I could be wrong and the person in question could just be using that hemp lighter just a bit too much! Wink

I'll be keeping an eye on your rev 0; I still want it. ( :

I just don't see how he can say he doesn't want to go into any detail about the computer; but he still expects a stupid high price.

Another question to ask is if this computer has even been tested? If not then lol.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

I'm there with you, I thought the same thing (so did my son when I showed him the listing)

Just was encouraged by the fact that the seller responded very quickly (and politely, as opposed to the way it was written in the listing) with all the requested info and pictures. They even added a note telling people to feel free to ask questions, so perhaps the person realized they made a mistake.

Who knows.

She is looking rather good now. Still don't have an A2M001 PSU but no biggie. Just wanted to make this the kind of package I would buy if I were buying instead of selling. Don't care about spending some to make some, just want to put together a nice package for someone to hopefully enjoy for as many years as I did (or more!)

Zan,

Apparently the seller has ended the listing on the Apple II you mentioned.

It may be that he received enough emails with questions about pictures and serial numbers that he decided to end it until he could supply more info.

A wise decision in my opinion.

Saw that once he finally posted a pic of the bottom. Did not bother sending him a note since he gives the appearance of offering as little info as possible. Spent over 250 on a II plus recently because it had what I wanted in it and a few hundred dollars worth of cards in it!

Zan and Transwarp,

As soon as I looked at the pic of the bottom label, I wrote to him and said that his unit has an Apple II Plus Prefix A2S2. I also asked if it was a II Plus with the lid switched out.
He swears that it is not a different lid.

DOH!

Yea it's just an Apple II plus with a II lid. The motherboard is just a regular old RFI unit. Nothing special.

He needs to update his listing to say it's a II+.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

$8000 is very high even if this thing is all original. Never seen anything like this.

The guy with 0 feedback that bid it up to $8000 is sketchy, but I have no proof that they are shill bids.

He bid $1600, went to $1800 and then $2000. Then this same bidder jumped to $4000, then $8000.

It just seems weird; but like I said I have no proof that they are shill bids.

On the other hand Zan, I know for a fact your Apple II rev 0 will sell for a good amount.
If I were you I would put at least a $3000 reserve; just to make sure you get your moneys worth.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Yeah I saw that with the bids and figured it was not kosher. Why up your own bid like that with so much time left on the auction. Curiouser and curiouser.

I am having fun just finding stuff to put with my machine, digging through our storage, buying on craigslist and ebay, (selling other stuff to pay for it!)
Need about another week to finish getting everything and testing everything. Was psyched to finally get all the original cards and roms back into the machine. Played around with testing the Programmer's Rom last night to make sure it was a working one and tested the Apple communications card (shows right up as Communciations card in the diagnostics)

Gotta dig out the cables to test the tapes (and the manual, been Sooooo long since I did that don't know if I remember how!)

Each day the wife is asking when I will stop getting more stuff and start selling more!

I don't deserve to have this much fun but had two old friends over on Saturday and it was like all three of us were 14 again running our bulletin boards. Even found the old disks with my one friends board on it with mail, user logins etc. Was fun looking at all the old handles and remembering who the various people were (the ones that we knew)

I will post the final images on here and the link to ebay when it goes up.

there are also bored douche bags trolling fleaBay with zero feed back accounts. I had run in with a few that would bid and disappear. All their contact info are bogus, had to go through fleaBay to have the fees reversed. Wasted a couple of weeks of my time.

these days I just added text to the effect that all bids from zero feedback bidder will be cancelled.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Thats a common known trick by criminals that bid up high with 2 accounts to scare off serious biddings
and then short before end of the austion one bidder draws off and the other bidder get the sweep off off
the item for a joking price....
the practice has been also used for cheating owners of cars leaving them with a bid less than 25% worth of the car....
and the fu shi...: ebay does not care a damn bit about that fraudsters.....
claims to ebay just went to the trashbasket...
only protection: set limitation to bids only with at least 50 feedbacks....

I'm not sure if I should laugh or what. Look what he just added:

"!!ATTENTION!!: I have received an offer for this auction. This listing will be removed 48-36 hours prior to end time if it does hit reach 60k! Thank you and happy bidding! message me if you need more information or pictures thank
you."

What does "if it does hit reach 60k" even mean? If it doesn't reach $60,000?

I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and assume this auction and the bids are fake.

There is no way this guy got a 60k offer! No way in hell. The vent-less rev 0's didn't even go for half that!

I'm not sure if I should laugh or what. Look what he just added:

"!!ATTENTION!!: I have received an offer for this auction. This listing will be removed 48-36 hours prior to end time if it does hit reach 60k! Thank you and happy bidding! message me if you need more information or pictures thank
you."

I just saw that myself and started laughing (had to quiet down so as not to wake the wife and kids)

Too funny. Gotta just sit back and laugh. Shame, is a very nice package. Must need to re-supply the stock for use with the hemplighter and figured he'd go for broke!

Well, the listing isn't there anymore. Either he got his wish or fleaBay deleted his listing for violation. Whatever it is, I hope he's happy; we know we all got a few chuckles out of it.

That listing got straight up deleted! My guess is ebay considered it a violation. Usually when the seller ends a listing the listing is still there just under "completed listings."

I gave him three offers my self, all of which were turned down.
The offers were as follows: $250, $350 & $500.

Too bad.

Here is a late model Apple II for 3.5k or obo:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1979-80-Apple-II-A2S1-Computer-Excellent-Condition/321254133202?_trksid=p2047675.m1986&_trkparms=aid%3D555012%26algo%3DPW.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D17905%26meid%3D2840375021849594130%26pid%3D100013%26prg%
3D8262%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D251378462737%26

The seller claims it's all original, but the power supply serial # is way off.

He also says "it has not been upgraded to the PLUS rom;" but in the pics it clearly has applesoft ROM's in it lol!

This computer has large spray paint stenciled words on the lid and under tray.

Also it has custom locks built into the lid.

In other words it's not all original and it's priced in rev 0 category.

This is true. Yet ebay fees keep coming.

Another good thing to do is to set a reserve price.
But I normally just sell my stuff at Buy it now prices just to avoid auctions all together.

It disappeared into the night...

He had a few other listing and they were all pulled too. More than likely he's under investigation.
