Apple III monitor:

Hi,

I have this Apple III monitor BUT it is not a normal one (like the A3M0039).
It has this very strange video output (just like a (mini) DIN 7-port).
I live in Belgium and bought it in the Netherlands. It has 220 Volt.
It also has a main PCB bpoard NOT from Apple but from ´Elcoma´ (which was a former division of Philips in Eindhoven).
Could anyone tell me anything about it; could it be a/(one of the first) prototype(s) of an Apple III monitor?

Thanks in advance for the answer

Re: Apple III monitor:

twallenta,

Is it possible that this version of the Monitor /// was manufactured specifically for the European countries?

Re: Apple III monitor:

The PCB on the back of the yoke is labeled Apple /// Video RGB. You don't suppose this is some kind of RGB conversion? Pretty cool.

Re: Apple III monitor:

Given that European systems often deal with RGB (think SCART) that might very well be.

Hallo Herman,

Toon

Well, I guess that depends on if you don't count the beige, gray and black faceplates, the green screen with or without the anti-glare filter, the green screen vs. the rarer amber screen or SUPER rare (as in unicorn rare) red screen.

EDIT - and I forgot the b/w version with the green filter. Woof.

Re: Apple III monitor:

Resulting from the rear picturetube PCB this is definitly a RGB Monitor.
The problen will be, to find documents about the pinouts of the connectors.
Maybe that at least the plugconnectors of that monitor are similar with other ancient Philips RGB Monitors......
In old Philips RGB Monitors the 5 pin DIN has been very common.... so i guess it to be the Standard Plug from Philips.
In some documents at asimov and in the internet that standard is collectable.
Be aware that the Philips RGB Monitors are analog - NOT TTL !
Maybe if you have another system out of the II series you may be able to test the Monitor with the RGB Card from IBS ( AP3 RGB Card ).
At ebay within the last months there has been a guy offering a card from Blaupunkt that might be usable with that Monitor.....

Hi speedyG,

I am thankfull for your comment on this issue. As I have dsecribed before I am a total laymen (ein Laie) when it comes to electronics, BUT concluding in your comment, you know much about it. Therefor I have some quiestions for you which you might be willing to answer:
You mentioned ´asimov documents´ in your reply; what are they and where can I find them (on the internet?)
You also say something about a RGB card from IBS (AP3 RGB card) What do you mean by this? (is this a Apple III RGB interface card which you have to use in a Apple III computer??)
Maybe you can point me out to some technical sites (maybe from Apple itself) that know more of the research/marketing/development in particual for the Apple III monitor?

Schönen Gruss,
Twallenta

Twall,

Start here:

ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/images/games/adventure

Then work your way back up the main directory.
