Re: THIS is Laughable!

well, it seems the basis 108 seller may have finally flipped out --
http://www.ebay.com/itm/191010793720

hint - what won't move at 800 bucks after six months won't magically move when you inflate the price by ten fold.

reminder - what didn't move at 800 bucks after six month, and didn't move during peak shopping season for 8 grand won't move when you further inflate the price by another 20% to 9500.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Nearly 1800 dollars for a Apple III, sounds exaggerated. Even if it would be in mint condition (which it is not).

probably because the seller saw vintage micro store unloaded a III+ with RGB monitor for 1600 a few weeks ago (which I thought was absurd.)
it does beg the question if the seller knows the difference between a III and a III+.

You bring up an excellent point. eBay prices are never a good tell about anything. I wanted a cassette adapter for my Altair forever and they rarely come up. People buy whole machines and pull them. So they typically go for around 500. I recently got a rev-0 board for $250. Now does that mean that everyone who paid $500 or bought a whole machine overpaid, or did I happen to get a good deal. Overpriced is in the eye of the beholder, but mispriced because you don't really have something unique but think you do is different.

In many, not all cases, these crazy prices are due to people not understanding what they have and mis-interpreting what things are worth based upon an eBay sale or news story about a similar item. For example after the 25k ventless rev 0, a whole bunch of later rev apple II went up for a couple of grand that should have been around $500-1000 in their condition. At work I'm famous for my car analogies and examples... So here is a car example that actually happened to me, recently Paul Walker, the actor, was killed in a 2005 Carrera GT. That car cost nearly a half a million dollars (new and used). It was all over the news, so.... I happen to be driving a 911 GT3 (cost a lot less than a half a million dollars, even when I bought it new back in late 2004) and a person stopped me and asked how could I drive a half a million dollar car and park it at Home Depot. I had to educate him about the only thing in similar between my car and the Carrera GT is the name and the company that built them. Even my wife isn't immune, when the news story came out, she said don't you have one of those.... I said, if I could afford to drive one of those don't you think we'd have a personal chef and not a microwave oven.

Cheers,
Corey

Bummer, I wanted that! I have a cracked copy (still on floppy) along with a few other programs on it but I figured they couldn't sell it back then no one will want it now! Oh well, I wanted it but not paying over 50 bucks for it!

Corey, Mutant, Dorkbert, and all,

Well, the people are emptying their closets
in a last ditch effort to get us to buy stuff at their prices.

I must say that I have picked up some really good deals
in the last couple of weeks, but "like whoa dude!", I am
not about to blow $900.00 on a couple of II Plus units.

Or two hacked up II Plus motherboards for several hundred dollars.

I expect things will simmer down again in the next couple of weeks.

A IIe for $600.00???

Oh Hell No! lol

Happy New Year to all.

Not to worry, you would not have won the auction. They sold for just over $1000.00

Actually I am not surprised at that one. I sold a II+ w/original cpu box & drive boxes for just over 600 a few weeks ago. This one is "new" (newish?) and combined with another so I figured they would get the starting price at least. If it were before xmas I would have spent 900 dollars confident that I could part out and sell the two machines separately for more than that. This time of year maybe not and I cannot hold onto something for that much $$ till next silly seas... I mean holiday season Biggrin
You never know what people are willing to spend!

They are serious and "don't call me Shirley" to quote Leslie Nielson.

If they start getting this for IIe systems I will seriously consider thinning out my herd.

What about this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/321289599044?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649
Is supposed to be an Apple IIc clone, but according to some brazilian guys at FB:
The TK-2000 is not even an Apple. Is a MicroProfessor II clone. It runs Applesoft, but anything else need patching as this thing does not have TEXT mode, GR mode (it's all emulated by software!), the HGR PAGE2 is mapped on another address and the keyboard hardware is totally different - absolutely every language machine program must be patched in order to work on TK-2000/MPF-II.

So somebody paid a lot for something that won't run programs or use cards, even when they stated it can.

Zan, Jay, and Jav,

I love the "And don't call me Shirley" reference. lol

How silly can it get?
Where do I start?

I just do not grasp the mind set of some of these sellers.
Maybe it's just me.

I have to go back to P.T. Barnum..."There's One Born (Sucker) Every Minute".

I did see one item this morning that was interesting.
It's an actual Apple Tape Backup Unit. An SC-40 I believe.
I do not believe that I have seen one before and the starting price is right.

There's been some deep pockets for crazy stuff recently. We may have to reconsider our notion of laughable. Last few months have left me dizzy.

Hmmm, which do you think had the more significant impact on how we use computers today: Ultima or Visicalc? A shrinkwrapped version of Ultima I would probably get that price easily, in a veritable nerd pack devouring the wildebeest frenzy. Surely, Visicalc is not less worthy? Smile

Please stop calling me Shirley. The difference is that there are aging gamers out there that wants to... buy back their youth through a shrinkwrapped copy of Ultima, but there are no accountants that would be willing to spend that kind of money on VisiCal when a copy of Macroshaft Orifice costs LESS (and runs on current hardware.)

Is supposed to be an Apple IIc clone, but according to some brazilian guys at FB

It's actually more like a II+ and it can use cards with a suitable external chassis or a Tomato adapter. While there are some compatibility challenges, it's more capable than some people are giving it credit. It's fairly easy to hack.

http://www.lojinhadomoises.com.br/tk2000-color-computer-ii-2/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-HAIBHdKZc
http://www.victortrucco.com/apple/tomatoboard/tomatoboard.asp

...tons more info out there.

If you were into collecting clones and compatibles (several people are), you'd probably evaluate it's value differently. The larger TK3000 (not the compact //e 3000) is easier to find but not so much the TK2000 or Compact TK3000 IIe -- at least not in the USA.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-APPLE-APPLIED-ENGINEERING-PHASOR-MUSIC-SOUND-SPEECH-SYNTHESIZER-CARD-/111248219870

The AE Phasor and the Transwarp II are the new unicorns. Heck, even the standard Transwarp is experiencing inflation: http://www.ebay.com/itm/121245243158 -- a 50% increase over previous average sell price.

Sean and all,

Yes. I had the Transwarp IIe on my watch list for about an hour, then I took it off.
I paid less than $70.00 for the one I have (last Year, early).

Now...This is Really Laughable!

Who (in their right mind) wants to shell out $15k for a used G4 Cube?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/151205165337?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Just read the Title, then read the description and tell me it should not be sold "as is" and "used", not NIB.

Transwarp and Transwarp II are two very different beasts.
The former is fairly common. The latter, less than 15 are known to still exist.
I don't know why you keep adding "IIe" to your Transwarp; there is no Transwarp IIe.

Sfahey,

I stand corrected. I think the actual eBay item was Moises' as it had the Tomato board and the SD reader. I'm actually into //c clones, just can't fathom the idea of paying that much. Alas, beauty (and price) is in the eye of the beholder. Smile

Very true.

I love the Apple //c. I almost bid on your recent auctions, but had to hold back. I'm still fishing for //c-specific bits that I don't have yet in my collection which is becoming harder to do.

Woof?

I figure AE probably scrapped most of them. What few that got sold before Bits & Pieces went poof are lost to time. Few that were rediscovered commands ungodly prices (sold the only one I've ever had for six bills.) Ironically I am still sitting on a 10MHz RocketChip.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Dorkbert and all,

When I say Transwarp IIe I am talking about the original Applied Engineering Transwarp. Which can be used on the II, II+, and the IIe.

And like I also said I paid between $60 and $70 for mine, early last year.

Now the A.E. Transwarp IIgs is a totally different animal.

I've had mine for several years and I do not remember what I paid for it.

Once one go up for auction you have to stand back cause everybody and their bother wants one now.

Transwarp mirrors the ROM content onto its onboard RAM and essentially runs everything out of the onboard RAM (minus I/O and display RAM access.)
Transwarp II caches the content of the RAM. It is very similar to a ZipChip/RocketChip. Transwarp II design bears more resemblance to modern processor design, though modern processor is much much more involved (pipelining, multi-way associative caching, branch prediction, etc.)

Just because it is installed a IIe does not magically alters its name to Transwarp IIe.
In order to distinguish it from the Transwarp for IIgs.

Transwarp for the IIGS, are invariably called Transwarp GS (as the product is named, and visible on the PCB itself.)
There is no Transwarp IIe name visible on the Transwarp PCB.
Transwarp II name is also visible the PCB of Transwarp II.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Fix,

Do a search for Apple II under Computers, Tablets, and Networking.

Then after the entire list of Apple II stuff comes up, add card after Apple II and voila! (that's French ya know.)lol

This time last year I was picking up all kinds of cards for less than $50.00 each.

This year, Just because Steve Jobs passed away, everyone is trying to up the ante.

There was a listing a while back for 32 5.25 Disk Controller and I/O Cards. Keep in mind that all of these cards had the cables removed.I think I know who won that auction, as they are now being sold in small batches. Eight cards for $79.00 or Best Offer as is.

I offered like $2.50 for each card and the seller wrote back saying that they would not take any less than $5.00 per card. $5.00 PER CARD!?!?!?! With no cables and half the connector block gone?

I just don't think so. THAT is laughable.

Hello Steven,
cool down......
remember that few years ago a lot of guys lost their jobs at Lehmanns Bros. .....
maybe some of those "banksters" changed mind and started up new business:
instead of selling "empty valued papers" you can use in the toilet -
some probably started up in trading "real items" instead....
maybe some of them have invested cheap in Apple crap and start selling now "very valuable and rare" items...

maybe some of the guys at ebay had a big joint while listening to the raggae song:
"you can get it if you really want - but you must try and try....."

there are still enough facilities for mental illness that are able to offer bed and cure....

ao you just might have to:
"wait and wait till they all arrive at the gates....."

by the way ... which seller is in your mind to be awarded with the applefritter
"green lemonade pot of outer space" for the year of 2013 ?

Post #177 on 17Feb2013 from AppleII6502.

This is the guy who came up one time in the entire year (2013) and tried to lambast me for telling sellers how it is on ebay.

This guy never did come back, or ask his question so it could be answered.

I kinda wish he had so I could give him a good answer. Smile

There was also the person who wanted 2.5 Million at the beginning of the year for an incomplete piece of software.

Hello Steven,
well i didn´t want to make it that difficult....
a lot of members here are not members at AppleII6502 ( including me ...)
so due to the fact the award is called:
"the green lemonade pot from outer space" from applefritter i think we should keep within the citylimits of AF....
that offers other members here too for votings and the chance of the members here to view the offers mentioned here
and side with the voting or make another nomination..... so what´s your choice within the mentioned posting here
from last year ?
i guess there´s a good bunch of candidates here too..... LOL.... Wink
i´d nominate posting 444 - the "cheap technician like case" for only 18.000,00 bucks....

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Now for something new:

I got mine this last year, complete in the box, with all the connection and booklet, with the dual disk drive for a lot less than $200.00.

Yes. This is laughable.

Hi Steven,

It sounds like you got yours for cheap.

They average at $200+:

Both of those sold for well over $200; Just like my last one did. I fail to see how a $200 PC transporter card is laughable. Especially with all of these $400+ Apple IIe’s for sale right now.

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Transwarp,

If you want to pay over $400.00 for a IIe, be my guest.

These folks are still trying to lure unsuspecting folks into over-paying for items that sold between $15.00 and $45.00 last year at this time.

Especially the IIe units.

Steven

Re: THIS is Laughable!

Nope, no way. //e's are not worth much by them self's, let alone $650! Heck I used to be able to get them for $10 each in 2001 from closing schools. They used to have auctions under a bridge in Forth Worth were you could get all sorts of stuff for cheap. I guess school sales are all dried up now, However I can still get them for cheap through recyclers. But I am kinda of leery of buying from certain recyclers; b/c of the whole tvrsales/Sellam stolen property thing...

BTW, there is a ragged out II+ on there right now with a $750 obo price! That's worth grabbing right? ( ;
