WTK: Value of Mac CX

Collector cleaning out climate controlled storage

Looking for ballpark values / place to list as I go through

Mac II CX

1 bank of 4 simms filled

40MB HD (apple stamped)

Macintosh display card

Cabletron Network Card (ethernet and coax)

I noted that it as 7.1.2 installed

What else would collectors need to know?

If there is a more appropriate forum, please direct me.

Thanks!

Does the floppy drive work? Boots Hard Drive to desktop? If yes to HDD boot (I'm assuming yes since you knew the operating system) also look and see what the installed memory is (4 simm slots filled could be more than one configuration of memory) Cosmetic condition will come from good photos.
Does it come with keyboard? Mouse? Disks?

If possible test the network card as well.

Those are the things that come to mind.

The most recent eBay sale was for CPU only, similarly configured (80MB not 40mb hdd but network card, 8mb ram) and went for $45 plus $14 shipping just 10 days ago.

Thanks for the note.

HDD boot, Ill have to recheck floppy and installed RAM. No keyboard, mouse, disks.

Should I list the nubus ethernet card separately? Seems like there could be value there for collectors of other nubus macs.

I would not think so in this instance. Nubus Rj45 cards are quite plentiful on ebay and elswhere. Most recent Cabletron NuBus card sold for twenty bucks on 9/8/14.

I feel a card like that would add more value to the package as opposed to separately (just my opinion) A less common card like Asante or Dayna cards for compact macs often fetch more separately than they do in added value when installed and sold with a machine.

The NuBus standard was around long enough and available in enough model machines that there were many cards made/manufactured and are therefore not as difficult to come by.

Again, JMHO

BPR,

Zan is correct on both counts.
You may get a bit more with the card installed.

I have several Mac IIcx units.

I paid anywhere from $20.00 to $45.00 for mine plus shipping.
They really aren't that popular as Mac II units go.
I have not been able to understand that, as I have had no problems with mine.

Zan / Steven

Thanks for the comments; I too cant understand why the cx wasnt as popular as the cx - I have and like both.

Looking to divest of some of my collection and fund new projects at the same time. Was thinking about seperating as the cx could go $40-45 and the ethernet could go $15-20 so net $55-65 vs leaving them together. I suppose it makes sense though as the nubus cards are certainly more prolific than the SE / SE/30 cards.

So, ebay is the reasonable place... I was hoping to find a collector forum that did a few things; get these in the hands of collectors quickly and mitigate transactional fees.

Again, thanks!

BPR,

I'm not so sure about eBay being so nice anymore.
Especially with their Transaction Fee's.
I was talking with DrKenB (He's another Apple II Guy) about shipping for one of his items
and he was telling me that eBay is now taking 10% of the seller's shipping fees.
That doesn't sound too nice to me. lol

Re: WTK: Value of Mac CX

All depends on what you are looking to accomplish. Generally speaking you will get the best prices on eBay, even after the listing and transaction fees. Not every auction, not every time, but overall. You could likely get the highest return selling directly to an individual, but your odds of sale at a price point you want diminish greatly without the single largest audience on the planet (eBay) having access to or even knowledge of your item for sale.

eBay charges 10% of the sale price, which includes the shipping since that is part of the sale price, up to a max of $250.00

I have made sales through eBay and outside of eBay. I do both (as does DrKenB)

eBay is not a non-profit organization, it is a business. This is not directed at anyone here by the way, but I have spoken with a number of people in person and more so online in forums that complain about eBay's fees. Simple answer being a business owner myself is no one is forcing them to use eBay. Their business, they set the rules. If you don't like them you need not utilize their services.

Now when they screw up within their own policies or alter the rules for sellers or buyers midstream, that is a different story.

Bitch about service, bitch about policy shifts, so be it. Bitch about price and you are pissing in the wind. They have every right to charge whatever they wish, it is their business. We have the right to use or not use their services.

Hi. Did you put it on eBay? If so, what did you get for it? Thank you.
