I want to dial a BBS with my Apple //e.

Hello,

I'd like to figure out what the best way to dial a BBS from my Enhanced Apple //e would be.

This is what I currently have:

* A Lantronix UDS-10
* An Uthernet II card
* A DB-25M to DB-25M
* A DB-25 to RS-232
* (Obviously) A few working Ethernet cords
* A Super Serial Card in my Apple //e
* A Raspberry Pi 2 and Raspberry Pi 3
* A DB-25 to USB

Thanks!

I would say that the components you need are: an external modem, the correct cable to hook the modem to your Super Serial Card (I use a Belkin F2L088b10), a telephone cord and software for your Apple II like ProTERM.

The best kind you can get would be a U.S. Robotics 56k external serial modem but I am not sure if their latest model would work with a iie.

I know that mine does. I have model number 005686-03.

I am saying this because you said that you want to, "dial a BBS".

If you want to connect to a computer running BBS software that supports telnet then you can use your Uthernet II and connect to one using telnet.

Do you know of any telnet software for the Apple ][?

Contiki 2.7 is supposed to have a telnet client.

If you want to try using your Raspberry Pi for communicating, you might look at tcpser which emulates a Hayes compatible modem. It works OK for me, but I am using it on the receiving end. I haven't tried "dialing out" with it. Hopefully you could use one of the Apple IIe communication programs and tell it you have a Hayes compatible modem hooked up to your super serial card.

That's actually a Telnet server. :/ I thought the same thing at first.
