6809 Cpu's

Ok.

I have an opportunity to pick up two complete
6809 CPU Kits.

There are several threads concerning 6809 CPU's
already up here, but I want folks to weigh in
with their honest opinions on the actual usefulness
of these Chips for the Apple II.

Right now the Seller in question has these two
kits set at $150.00. Is it worth it?

And once I get them (if I get them)what can I do
with them?

All comments welcome.

<< SNIP >>

What are "6809 CPU Kits"??

I have seen the Stellation The Mill boards and Hardware Projects to make your own 68008 Board, ( and there is probably a Make your own 6809 Board somewhere )

Steven :)

Fascinating....

The First One has a Hitachi Chip, so it's most likely a 6309...

Well...

It's much more reasonable than this one:

and On Parr with this one:

As it stands now, my questions are moot.
Someone bought both units for the Buy It Now price of $250.00.

Was that a good price?

I would still like to hear from folks s to their usefulness for the Apple II.

Steven,

if You like Opeating Systems, having a 6809 inside Your Apple may let You run OS/9, Flex or learn 6809 assembly language, depending on the expansion board You can put Your hands on.
Thanks to Applefritter user jwg1962, Jay Graham , we've even discovered that a a version (actually lost) of the MUMPS programming language existed for the Apple II /6809 The Mill card combination.

I've got one The Mill Card off ebay and built the expansion board that let it run OS/9 by myself and I had the pleasure of running OS/9 in my Apple II; something I could only dream of when I was young!

I don't think that running OS/9 is anything useful other than letting one play with it and learn about a real piece of history.
You can check my post about it.

Cheers
Luca
