Hi,
I have a problem with ADT Pro. I am using Version 2.0.3 with an Apple //c and a Mac with Catalina. I am using a USB to Serial (CH340) and a custom build cable (pinout taken from the ADT Pro website).
Bootstrapping works fine with my setup, but I cannot get the application to work. When I try to receive a file from my Mac by pressing the "R" key (or selecting the appropriate menu option) it just gets to an error "HOST TIEMOUT/PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE".
I already have tried throu the settings I can do for the serial interface (baud rate, /dev/cu.usbserial-FD4420, /dev/tty.usbserial-FD4220), but no chance to get any dsk file to my //c.
Where to start analysing this problem?
Have you tried ticking the box for "imagewriter cable" under the serisl options?
Yes I also tried that.
Here are the latest news on my problem, which let me think it's a problem with my Mac:
I tried to log on my Mac and try again (maybe Java under a normal user account is lacking some rights) and now the App hooks up, when I try to enable the serial connection. Now it also hooks up, when I start it with my user account and klick on "serial". I will have to reset the whole app... and just for the records: I do start the app by running ADTPRO.command and NOT just doubleklicking the icon... as stated in the README.
Next I will try to pull out my old windows laptop and try again with this maschine.
I have not tried 2.0.3 under a Mac. But I know alot of people (including me) have not had good luck running 2.0.3. Can you try and find 2.0.2 (this is the version I use all the time) and see i the problem persists. I know the newest version hasn inherint java issues. But the previous version 2.0.2 seems to work a bit better.
OK, I have several points to start at now:
-Trying with my Windows Notebook
- Trying an older Version of ADTPro (2.0.2)
And, after I installed Java and tried a "dry run" on my notebook:
- De-install Java on my Mac (which is the latest JRE8u271) and install an older version (JRE8u152), since anywhere inbetween these two versions the RXTX-support of Java went faulty.
I have one suggestion, only change the "working directory" before you connect and if you need to change it you can't. If you have to change it disconnect the ADT client connection from the host machine first. Then change the working directory and reconnect cleanly. I ran into issues until i got the order down and since then its been smooth transfering...
Gave up with 2.0.3. So just fall back to 2.0.2.
So, latest tests:
From my Windows Notebook not even the bootstrapping works.
For my Mac I don't find an elder JDK.
ADT Pro 2.0.2 doesn't work either, the result: Bootstrapping the App works fine, but no communication between the App an the server is possible :(
I got a reply from the author:
On a Mac one must not install the RXTX Java extention.
Also there seems to be an issue with with CH340 chipset. I have ordered a FDTI-Adapter, which he recommended me. I'll report if that helped.
OK, last update:
I deleted the RXTX-Java-Extention from my Mac and got a FDTI-USB-Serial-Adapter and 2.0.3 works great for me.
Congratulations! Do you have any interesting ][ software to share?
Well I am working thru the Asimov Archive at the moment ;)
Somebody from this site claimed a few years ago he uploaded a full copy of the DBMaster Manual to Asimov, but I can't find it there.
