What’s new for Apple IIgs System 6.0.2
After 22 years, 2 months, 2 days and 2 hours since System 6.0.1 was released, this is a summary of the visible changes. There have been many bugs fixed and many features added that are not immediately visible–they will enable developers to create better future products. Be sure to also read the Shortcuts file on the SystemTools3 disk for more information.

3rd party modified 6.0.1 GS/OS?
Antione has used the original Apple source code and added some modifications. I am pretty happy that this is actually happening
Think about "out of the box" support for certain hardware! Some things have to be implemented inside the OS for it to work properly.
The about screen should say that this is not an Apple release! The author of this build is anonymous...why?
Do you realy issue this question seriously ?
Ever beared in mind the numerous settlements and trials of Apple
at court previously ???
Even if they stopped any kind of support decades ago.....
if they get a smell of money they would even battle against
public domain..... LOL
There is no money in modified GS/OS. Moreover Apple themselves released the source code?..
but they never released it to become public domain....
no further comments - i don´t waste my time further on that part of the subject...
You are usually wasting your time for lengthy advices with wordy (and sketchy) explanations for much more trivial issues...;)
Would you please stop this?
Back to the thread:
I have legal concerns also. I asked on Facebook if this is legal, and I got no response.
I ask here: Is this legal? Any lawyers here? I'd like to know.
I'm not a lawyer but...
It would seem to me that if Apple had a problem
with Call-A.P.P.L.E. doing updates to GSOS, we would have
heard about it by now. It would have hit the Apple II
Facebook pages and other sites as well.
Just a layman's opinion.

Hello Steve,
thats unfortunatly no indication...
Call Apple is just a monthly publication that published a notice....
they are not themselves part of the distribution...
they just publish information nothing else... and thats always legal...
you even may publish information about crime without any trouble if you just
keep at the point of informing the public.... like a newspaper...
The problem is related to the code itself and the copyright to the code...
In days before 1984 it would have not been a problem because Apple
had a kind of tolerance agreement with the User groups....
It was welcomed by Apple that User groups distributed new information and updates
( for example a bunch of the former tech notes resulted fron sources in the
user groups..... ) - but after Jobs got Wozniak out of the business it was one of the first
acts from Jobs to cancel all kinds of support and cooperation with the user groups.....
Thereafter Apple started a bunch of trials and lawsuits against several user groups and
members of the groups related to copyright cases....
And thereafter Apple started the act of keeping every information "under the hood"...
thereafter Apple only granted information after payment of exteme high "licensing fees"
and today nobody really knows about the minds of that greedy managers.... if you
don´t earn enough by sales you will start hunting for alternate income
so what earning is enough ?
publishing your name is drawing a targetmap on your back...
do you know if they will shoot or not....`?
You can´t grant code to public use as open source if you don´t own the copyright....
Thats´the stuff lawyers generate their income of....
and do i have to repeat the question:
"What are hundreds of lawyers with solid shoes of cement at the ground of the Hudson river ?"
LOL

Seems a little snappier than 6.0.1.
Is there any real reason to install a pre-6 GS OS on your IIgs?
If you don't have enough RAM to run GS/OS 6.x.x.....

The answer is:
A good Start!
LOL
