Mystery Problem using A2DVI with Videx AND Z80 card at the same time

Hello Friends:

So here is a bit of a mystery issue I am trying to solve.

I am using an Apple II+, standard board, no mods.

In the machine are the following

Slot 0: Saturn memory card

Slot 1: Grapler

Slot 2: A2DVI

Slot 3: Videx 80 col card (A2DVI configuration Videx is enabled)

Slot 4: Microsoft Z80 Soft Card clone

Slot 6: Disk Controller Card - Disk 1 is a Floppy EMU Disk 2 is a physcial floppy drive

Slot 7: Sider Interface Card - no Sider connected at this time

So I was struggling to get everthing to work correctly. Couldn't get the EMU to load disks or the Z80 couldn't be found.

After several attempts to narrow down the issue by playing with card combinations and slots, I discovered that if the A2DVI were installed along with the 80 col Videx AND the Z80 softcard, the system could not find the Z80 card and the EMU had issues loading disk images.  Remove the A2DVI and the Z80 and Videx will play nice with the system. Remove either the Videx or the Z80 and all was well.  All three at the same time did not work properly.

A2DVI with all cards EXCEPT 80 col, everything worked as expected.

A2DVI with all cards EXECPT Z80 card, everything worked as expected.

Moving the A2DVI to any open slot did not change the outcome. The Videx must remain in slot 3 for it to work with the A2DVI. Moving the Z80 to other slots did not solve the problem.

Long story short: the A2DVI breaks the normal operation of the above machine configuration.

Anyone ever had this combintation or see this behavior?

Anyone have thoughts on a solution?

I would start with Card Cat

I would start with Card Cat and see if it misidentifies any of the cards when all three are inserted. The latest version should be able to properly identify all three individually, which you can download from here: https://henrylowe.net/card-cat/
