i dont know that much about the apple ii's to be sure but it had the memory blocks on it

For a so-so unit in the 20000s with a Rev 3? Personally I think it's overpriced. I've been watching sales for several years.. original Apple IIs really aren't that rare, and apart from the Rev 0 aren't all that special. I don't know why they command so much money.. especially the later serials above 60000 that are consistently getting $700+. Makes no sense.

Well, I think a little more then 80,000 Apple II's makes them somewhat rare. If you consider probably at least 1/3 are gone, and how many are still fully functional and complete? If you consider how many of the individual revisions were produced, then some are more rare then others.

Most of the ones for sale on eBay are just mismatch of different parts, and most are not even fully working. I think they seem more common because most of the ones on eBay are the same machines being sold multiple times.

I think a fully functional and complete Apple II should command a decent price.

Re: old apple ii

I've actually been maintaining a spreadsheet of a2s1 sales on ebay for a few years. i wouldn't claim 100% accuracy by any means, but I do watch a2s1 sales all the time and it's rare that I see an SN that sold come up again later. Mostly they are unique.

Don't me wrong, I love the Apple II and have been a devotee for a while. But even if 'only' 80,000 units were produced (I think it's actually more like 60,000, there is a gap in the SNs), how many actual collectors are out there in the whole US/world? I don't think nearly as many as other realms of collecting. In my trading activities I've noticed a marked drop in prices across the board for vintage stuff, and I suspect it will continue a) as more stuff is dislodged from estates/basements and b) collectors with living memory of these machines pass on. I picked up my original Mark-8 boards for $1500US, a feat that should have been impossible (and would have been) several years ago.
