I want to know if the Macbook Pro 17 battery (when they were still modular/user removable) were backward compatible with the Powerbook 17. Does anybody here know? These things look identical to me, and the Apple store still is selling new batteries for the MacBook Pro 17". The store says that I can buy one, try it, and return it within 15 days with no restocking penalty. The voltage is 10.8v on both of them. However I don't know the dimensions of the MacBook Pro 17 batteries. The service manuals indicate that the charging circuitry is identical and even says for MacBook Pro 17" service techs to reference the Powerbook manuals. Apple did change the wattage on the chargers from 65 up to 85. Shall I try it?

They are not the same. They are pretty close, but the MacBook battery is just a little bit bigger, it won't work.
Well, thanks for the answer. It was a beautiful dream anyway. I guess I may (or may not) buy a third party replacement. The one I recently got for my TiPowerbook works great.
